cockpit w/ radar + ship overview?

i kinda like the menu-based instruments. but anyway, it doesn't
really give the feeling of flying a high-tech combat ship / freighter.

in the last 15-20 of the screenshots on this site, there's another
kind of cockpit, and i wonder if that's from a current mod or so?

Yeah, I went to the screenies section, and you're right! Holy crap? How did that happen? And who submitted those screens? And can I have the files necessary to make MY game look like that? Cuz that was frickin' sweet. Perhaps you should bring this to the attention of more people in the general editing forum? Seems the more appropriate place for this anyhow.

I'm not sure, but I've read somewhere that this cool cockpit was early project of DA, cancelled by MS as "too complicated". But that was just a rumor...

I noticed in one of the pictures that a kusari ship is exploding and the explosion effect looks better than any of the ones in game! At least, in a still frame it did. Looks like it has a three dimensional aspect to it.

That's something about Microsoft games that I find extremely annoying. Their HUD's for every game I've played of theirs has been this overly simplified HUD that was apparently designed by Fischer Price. Everything about it is annoyingly large and dumbed-down. I don't know if they're worried about players with poor eyesight, or what.

I tell ya, developers really need to go old school and offer customizable HUD's. The kind where you can choose your preferred colors, brightness, and resolution. It's extremely annoying to have huge blocks of text or highlighted nav points that obscure your view.

As for the suggestion that the HUD or cockpit detail was "too complicated," that's the lamest excuse I've ever heard given the detail levels of the decade-worth of past games that offered such "complicated" options as panning cockpit views and HUDs built in to the dashboard or canopy of the craft. "Complicated" is adding a pilot's hand and joystick animation in the cockpit that mirrors your actual movements.

let's face it. if we don't siege the DA office, we'll never
get the game we want. freelancer is freelancer.

if no-one know a way to contact the developers or something like that.

i just don't understand how it can be so hard to not make
cockpit that looks like a cockpit, and not as window xp3000.

lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven!

the first one is from an Independences war game. You should see the newest version Independence War 2 Edge of Chaos.

guys there IS a way to get smaller fonts though if you want less Fisher-Priceness.
all you really need to do is BINI the FONTS directory's INIs and then modify them to your heart's content BUT, as I have expressed on this thread, I do not know (and need to know) if modifying cosmetic things like font type, and point size, can lag servers, trip mod detectors, etc.
