DeathMatch Mod

Hey, everybodee

By popular request from my clan members, I'm making a death match mod.

I've placed a jump hole 12K off Manhattan in the direction of the sun (just fly toward the sun when you undock from Manhattan - can't miss it) that takes you to system with NO NPCs.

The system tests fine, though I'm still having a little trouble with the base (anybody who wants to offer suggestions can e-mail me at [email protected]!)

I just posted something like this earlier. I called it a Holo-Deck type mod. So, this deathmatch, any special qualities, other than a place to fight? If not, can't u just do that in some low level system?

Main thing I would love to see:
Station were u can 'obtain' any ship you'd like to deathmatch with. Your ship should be retruned after the match. At this station, you can re-arm the 'deathmatch ship' with whatever weapons. Any ship 'bought' on this special station can not leave this system.

I'd like to help if I can.. so if you need a few testers, or would like anyone to try moding, please let me know.

I plan to sell all weapons at a base, but not all ships. The main feature of the system is the lack of NPCs. Even though you can go to a low-level system to duel, it's still annoying to be harrased.

I also plan to put an asteroid field, Nebula, and Mine field in diff't places to liven things up a bit :<

Sounds cool. Would you have anything like death Messages i.e who killed who. also a scoreboard for Team Deathmatch?

Right now, the only problem I'm having is that docking at my base causes the game to lock up.

I really need to get into this mod thing.... and not just spend all my time playing the game.

I had mentioned this to John privately.... I'll relay my thoughts here and all you experienced moders can give it some thought. Here's how I think DM would be *best*.

1) A universe free of pests. Only the people fighting involved.
this should not be a problem
2) A station to purchase different ships so that the duel can be interesting.
again, not to big an issue, create several stations for different fighters levels.
3) A station to purchase different weapons
again, not to big an issue
4) Return original ship after fighting
big problem.
5) Keep people from leaving DM universe with purchased goodies.
big problem.

One thought I had on addressing these issues is to have the jump gate controlled by the DM faction. As soon as you buy a ship/weapon from the DM faction your at war. You can not use the jump gate until the ship/weapon is returned. Perhaps the bar can be used, instead of bribing with money, bribe with the items purchased. Last problem would be how to return the original merchandise.

So.. does any of that sound feasible? Humm.... how powerful is this game scripting language? Is it possible to use built in read/write functions to create a simple write and read player data? Going one step further... I know server side scripts are in process to allow player stat viewing. Perhaps a way to script that and store the data till after the DM battle.

I will have to start looking at moding so that I can ascertain the feasibility of these ideas...

Any thoughts?
