I don't think there is any Star Wars MOd, but there is a few ships like Tie fighters. You can download them in one of these forums.

I cant wait for legendary starship millenium falcon

Millenium Falcon : Beneath its hull, though, the Falcon packs many powerful secrets. Its owners made "special modifications" on the freighter, boosting its speed, shielding and performance to downright illegal levels. Its weaponry has been upgraded to military-class quad-turbolaser turrets. To cover rapid escapes, the Falcon sports a ventrally mounted hatch-concealed antipersonnel repeating laser. Between its forward mandibles rest concussion missile launchers. The habitable interior of the vessel also has a few surprises, such as concealed scanner-proof smuggling compartments

Hey,

Hi, I don't know about a mod, but I'm kinda into a cross-universe Idea. How about the empire invading Sirius? That would be cool. I like to see the Missouri take on an ISD, or even a M/FRG. (hehheh)

A/w, I've been kinda disappointed with the ship that have been released so far. I mean these ships are good and all, but what about less popular, though no less cool ships like the Z-95, or the R-41? They probably more closely match Sirius ships in performance anyway. Or what about the Jedi Starfighter? I mean the movie sucked, but that ship was pretty cool. I see the Correllian Corvette's been added, what about the Republican Gunship from Ep:1? It's about the same size as a corvette, and even looks cooler. Oh well. Maybe some day.

P.S. What was Chris Roberts thinking when he made all ships go the same speed? I mean come on, are all engines in Siruis exactly the same. Why does a freighter move as fast as a fighter? And another thing. Why are the cockpits virtually non-existant? All you can see is some metal braces and that's it. Do we remember in WC and privater when you moved the ship the pilots hand would move the joystick and everything? How can you picture yourself in the game, if you looking at your ship from behind. Oh well.

Personally the Z-95 always was a little light on for shields. Primarily used now as a training fighter (depending on what time you look @ in the Star Wars Time Line)

Personally what I'd like to see in a Star Wars TC would be:
- Some planets from the Movies, and some that are mentioned purely in the novels
- 4 "major" empires (as taken from the New Jedi Order Series)
--> New Republic
--> Empire
--> Yuzzhan Vong
--> Chiss
- More capital ships in system, with the type being dependent on the "control" of the system (ie: A Mon Cal Star Cruiser in Rep Space or an ISD or ISSD in Imp Space)
- The obvious craft from the movies and the like, X, A, Y & B-Wings, TIE Fighters, Interceptors (etc), Gun Boats, Troop Transports, etc. Free flight around the systems should be modified slightly to cover affiliations. Obviously traders (and to some extent smugglers) could travel more freely, people piloting Hyperspace capable fighters (soz no TIE class here) would be more likely to be attacked when entering other systems.

What would be great would be online, linking up with a Squadron (12) Rep craft and tackling a squad of Imp fighters

Hey,

I agree we need more Rebel/Empire era starfighters, but I still think the Z-95 is an essential part of the Star Wars timeline and should be included. Sure, it may be light on sheilds, but if you're flying around in a big bruiser wasting anything that moves, the game gets pretty old quick. For instance, I still enjoy outfitting a StarTracker with dual Heavy Starbeams and going up against rogues. It may take for ever to beat them, but it's fun.

A/w, I think the ISD idea is feasable, but in all honesty, I think a SSD would seriously freeze up the game engine. I mean, if you ever played XWA, you know that thing is humungous from a fighter viewpoint. the FL universe is just to small in my opinion to incorporate such a monster. An what ship could stand against it? I don't think all the house's fleets combined could take on down. However, it would make a pretty good landable base. It would take some pretty major CG artwork to create a hangar for one however, since nothing in the game even resembles a SSD hangar, (or a ISD hangar for that matter.) I think we should start small with the cap ships, perhaps with a FRG, or even a M/CRV.

Oh, btw, I hear a Republic Gunship Mod is in the works, wouldn't that be awesome!?!

Sweet!

Yeah, I know what u mean John with regards to the ISSD, but how kewl would it be to see one! I mean, with the kind of textures Freelancer has to offer with its gaming engine, I'd like to see one floating in the middle of a star system away from the lane gates so as to not take up ALL the space! Landing on one wouldn't really be too hard, it would be like landing on the cap ships in FL, ie, going UP into the bay. The interior doesn't really have to be all that similar, just the outside! I mean, who looks @ the inside anyways ()

Actually, I think that someone should start with the fighters and leave the larger ships alone, you're more likely to finish it faster and have more people flying a Defender (only hyper capable small figher in the Imp fleet) before they fly something larger. U just know however that everyone's hanging out for the falcon. Actually someone's done some damned nice Star Wars fighters already, check the Babylon 5 forums, can't remember the guys name atm.

Could probably script some of the "smaller" cap ships, ie: Lancer Frigate, Blockade Runner, Deadnaught and the like.

(and the drool begins...)

Good idea on keeping it away from the gate, but IMHO, I don't think the experience would be quite their if you didn't render the inside. I mean just think about it, landing in the hanger bay of a SSD and going to the ship dealer, (an imperial officer skin of course,) and buying a TIE Defender. That would be cool. (Oh btw, the TIE Defender isn't the only hyperspace capable TIE, The TIE Advanced has a hyperdrive too. So does the Assault Gunboat, and Cygnus Missleboat. Well, the last two aren't really TIE's, but their still imperial.)

And I mean't rendering the cap ships as base's not as playable. Who'd want to pilot an ISD. Sure it has like 80 turbolasers, but that thing would be super chunky and super slow. Unless you made it faster and more manueverable, but then it would'nt be much fun or beleiveable.

Oh, The you can download the falcon right on this very site. It's in the Babylon 5 ship pack in the download area. Why is it in the Babylon 5 pack? How the heck should I know, but it is. looks pretty good too.

omg!

How could u not wanna pilot an SSD Personally I'd love to bring 80'odd turbolasers and ion cannons against a fleet of ships! All you're really vunerable to in an SSD is group fire from torps, as in the books that's the only way a squadron could take down the shields. Besides, those turbolasers are pretty much deadly to snubbies, and against the Freelancer cap ships would just turn them into slag. Imagine flying an ISSD (ooooooooo)

However, in XWA u can be a smart arse and take out shield generators and then blow the hull slowly. I can still remember fighting the ISSD for about 30 mins, dodging and weaving, destroying the shield gens THEN getting the hull down to 1%, however, u could never destroy it. Damn, I wanna paint an ISSD on the nose of my snubby ;(

Thanks for reminding me about the TIE Advanced, forgot that had hyperdrives!

hey,

Just came up with a new line of thought. The only way you could pilot a SSD in the game would be in cockpit view, cause the things so large, it would block out the screen, you wouldn't be able to see what you aiming at. + since it's about five miles long, you're target wouldn't even show up in the hud since minimum hud range is about 2.2K initial, and the view is from behind the ship. I would forsee the same problems even with the VSD, it isn't in the least as big as a SSD, but you'd still have a problem unless you were in cockpit view.

A/w, I was just saying I wouldn't want to fly it cause it makes the game to easy. besides, you'd have to do something major freaky to make it fit through a jump gate or trade lane. + the max speeds only like 12MGLT right? it would take you forever to get anywhere.

Btw, I still disagree about the Z-95, and R-41. I mean they would be awesome pirate ships. not to mention they would add a lot more variety to the freelancer galaxy.

SSD is 17.7KM
VSD is about 1.5KM i believe

Post Tue May 27, 2003 1:59 am

thx for the numbers morgan.

As you can see it would be hard to hit a target 1.5 km off your nose, nonetheless 17.7! Wow, think of a ship 17.7 kilos long in freelancer! Still think it would make an excellent base.
