"Freelancer Most Active Servers" Remake

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

It's good to see that back - I've been looking to resurrect that for ages. The best I could do was this: Most Active Servers (based on data collected by the Global Player Rankings).

There's a lot of potentialy great stuff you can do with a HTMLised Global Server List. You could add some direct connect buttons like I have done on the GPR Server List. I'd be happy to host a copy of the code if you'll let me

stay tuned for a release on www.freelancerserver.de in the next weeks (it was quite an effort to "crack" the global server)

I think Akataka also wanted to release his utilities he used to query the global server back on flserver.com

awesome idea. is Max = max players seen? or is it just the max # of players? and what criteria determine 'active' ranking placement?

Max is "maximum number of players".
Servers are ordered alphabetically, not by activity.

just a question
why is there the need of a serverlist that has exactly the same function as the list in game?

Post Sat Oct 14, 2006 2:12 am

Just an answer.

Cryo is building his site providing more functionality and access to things for players than ever before, as part of the visitors "experience" having this is a good addon. I particularly like the work he put into for the serverlist and clan list which serverops can use to put on their websites.

You can answer the question you asked because on your website you show the number of players online - sort of the same argument really isnt it, showing data on a website that is on the global server?

Post Sun Oct 15, 2006 1:51 am

wrong

that stats on my websites have nothing to do with the global stats
its a custom script that i have since ages
i dont even run a normal version of FLstats anymore

the question is why there is the need of a list of servers that is identical with what you can see in game? there is no additional information that can be used

Post Sun Oct 15, 2006 11:10 am

LOL.

you show player numbers online? this is available on the global server. Why do you show it on your website?

This is linked to the question you asked, its about information for players.

So get of your high horse and think about what other people visting your site would be interested in seeing, Its about "content". The more relevent information you can get onto your website, the higher liklihood of people returning, the more succesful your community is, the more players on your server.

Staying "insular" doesnt work in FL anymore.

i like how roll-over drops down a link to the mod/forum, that's one thing the global list doesn't do - you can't even see the MOTD unless you have the correct version so putting a link to a forum or download for the mod is just redundant, yet i see it all over the place.

Strail's right about the isolation of servers and mods - but i think they need to be more accessible so players can find the right server and mod for them without digging through forums for hours and then finding out it's not for them - content be damned, i want convenience. i can evaluate a mod better by logging in and playing than i ever could by reading about it. just a quick way to get on a new mod and server would make it less involved to play/preview more mods.... also a server comment section would be cool, where players could leave reviews or vote on various criteria

and hey a lot of the features we need are already available and just waiting to be exploited, flmm does have a command-line extension for activating mods... you could download with firefox and a plugin could supply the correct modname to the command line activation.. then it could then run the EOA web connect tool and we would (in theory) have a pretty much fool proof mod installer/server connecter (for the Unreal-Tournament-spoiled masses)

don't forget, microsoft hasn't promised to keep the global server up forever - we should be looking at alternative ways of listing servers just in case - seeing as it's inevitable sooner or later, hopefully much later but we should be realistic.

i personally like it alot and im going to link on my site

ok fine we have to play that game then....

@Strail
i have asked a simple question and you come up with such a **** ... fine then here we go

YOU have given not a single that does explain what i have asked for
YOU start laughing about MY stats???????
YOU have to start bringing a simple question down to an personal level by attacking me verbaly????

I tell you why i have the online stats there.... BECAUSE THE PLAYERS GO TO MY PAGE AND NOT TO OTHERS IF THEY WANT TO SEE STATS (AND THIS IS A SUCCESSFUL CONCEPT FOR MORE THAN 3 1/2 YEARS NOW) GOT IT?????

So ok I ask again "Why is there the need to have a list of servers if the same list does already exist and is much more known to the community because it is in the game?"
EVERY1 who would want this information could get it in game.... and there are much more ppl which simply check the GLS for information than those that do even know about the global stats.

oh and Strail
i get down from my high horse if i feel that its worth it
right now i feel like staying up and look down to you just because MY pages offer WAY more information than what you have
- a complete FL database
- a complete CF database
- information about clans
- rules + roleplay stuff
- the CF stats (which are way better than the pure FLstats)
- pvp stats
- dynamic events/news network
- roleplay stats
- external rp sites
- a forum that is much more active than LR and most other community forums in FL
and much more

so dont tell me this crap about "content" coz there is no other FL community (besides LR) that does offer more information about FL
and Crossfire is one of the most successful servers of the last 2 years (and before i hosted 2 other very successful servers)... from what i see its one of the top5 servers
so dont tell me something about "success" coz in the last 5 years i did lead 4 clans, 3 servers and one gaming community to the top (not to mention that i created one of the most successful FL mods ever, which had about 20000 downloads in just 1 month -> which is something like a record here)

so plz do me a favour... care for your own business
oh and you dont need to answer my question from earlier... i go to cryo and ask him... there i will get an answer

@Cold_Void
thx
at least there is a good answer but i see some difficulties

1. the list does show exactly the information that has been written into the servernews and mostly the forum is written there aswell (and if its not written there then it wont show it on the stats either

2. many mods use scripts and cant be deactivated correctly so switching mods will be a very though problem
there is also a problem if people use different versions of FLMM because some of those dont work correctly

3. sure the global list server wont stay online forever but from what i see here the stats are based on the GLS (and im pretty sure there is no other way to gain all this information) so when the global server does go down somewhen the stats will go down aswell
(not that i would care because i already have a solution for my server)
