FLstat Improvements - Feedback Required!

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

FLstat Improvements - Feedback Required!

Chaps,

I've dug out the FLstat source code, and I'm considering developing an updated version of it. I have a small number of things that I want to improve, but my list is quite short. So, please let me know any ideas that you have that you would like me to include.

(Those of you who don't know what FLstat is, check the link in the sig.)

Cheers,

Cryo.

only thing that is obvious that needs fixed is dead servers and there players still listed. e.g Internode has been dead for months now but still listing players for it.

ed: hmm

How abount a list of mods the server uses or MAYBE allows.

My Server has been running Open Jumpholes, Nutral Factions and Starting Cash of 100K. I JUST added Nomads in all systems and soon will have Capital Ship encounters. All of this should get mine listed as a moded server, but I DONT allow ANY client side mods.

How about character creation date, and detailed kills as per Battleships, Freighters and Fighters?

Internode may have been dead for months, but the players that got high ranks/kills deserve to be included in the Global Stats. I do, however, periodically prune any dead servers that only have a small number of low ranking players.

Perhaps I should "gray out" very old characters?

Suggestion then, have a Hall of Fame and Active player section. Say to be active you have to have been online in last 2 months.

ed: also the Rank rankings, how about changing it from the actual level but to a % of the possible level on that particular mod. I know when Bobways changed there level ranking it completley right hand turned the rankings with there max level at 750

Yet another thought, for Glabal Player List, you could update the active server list based on their respective web pages, and not based on flserver's web page, which does not seem to update as often as it used to

[EDIT: That was based on the asumption theese servers run IFSO generating the online player list web page, now that I think of it, it doesn't such a good idea as not every1 runs IFSO

Some great ideas for the G.P.R. folks (which I shall make note of for the future), though I was actually looking for suggestions for improving FLstat . I'm currently giving it a massive overhaul, and it will be much easier to use (no update.cmd).

Ok, then how about a setting were you can tell FLstat what the starting funds are on servers where that has been changed. That way you dont have all those players with 5 min of play time and starting funds showing up as possible cheaters. It would make finding the one who ARE transfering credits much easier.

For those of you who are interested, here's a sneak peak at the new version of FLstat, currently in development. Please have a look, and let me know your thoughts on it.

I'm looking for some help for the Alpha test phase. What I really need is for some people to email me their "FLserver.cfg" files, so that I can test that they are correctly parsed. I'm also looking for some player files (.fl) with names containing special characters (e.g. Chinese) so that I can test the unicode support.

There will eventually be a Beta test phase. Anyone interested in participating should let me know by email. To warn you, this new version will not be compatible with any older version, nor with FLSO (yet), so a little time and effort will be required...

Cheers,

Cryo.

Cryogenius - some server admins are very unsure about how to publish their stats onto the web with autoupdating tools.

I was wondering if you had the time to make a quick little tutorial that tells you what you need and what to do. I know that it has one in the actual tool, but i could not follow some areas of it.

OR - for the new version.....

Perhaps an option whereby their is a window in the tool that you can enter the FTP address of the site, as well as password/name and it will take care of it automatically. Two versions - one that doesn't have the autoupdating tool included (for those who already have the software to do it with/have the FLStat before), and one that does have it. Maybe it could be an option during install - it will install the correct thing to publish info on the net, and at that point you enter the required information about the FTP site/passwords etc....but would they be able to edit this at a later date manually if necessary?
The idea is basically that it removes any admins "work" - because not all of us are fluent in computer/net terminology, and reasons as to what to do....ergo, when my admins asked me - i tried to work out what it meant....and faild miserably. Mind you - might have helped if i had an FTP location to practice on

Other stats things - any chance of a tab for "versions" so that you can select the fav version and only pull up their stats?

As you may have noticed, i know nothing about how the tool works etc, so i really dunno whether the above is possbile OR practical, but it would be handy

Hehe! I think Chips wants Cryogenius to do more than dust off the code! More like a code rewrite!

I think I made every single error EXCEPT RTFM when I set up my FLStats. IFSO certainly made it easier. Cryogenius, I would consider being a beta tester as long as it doesn't interfere with IFSO and FLAC (my potent anti-cheat admin tools). OIC, I'll email you...

Thanks for the feedback Chips, that's the kind of info I need to know.

On the subject of auto-upload, I'll see if I can find the post in this forum that I did some while back, and update/bounce it. I'll be completely rewritting the documentation for FLstat, and I'll try to make it easier to understand.

I have been thinking about integrating an FTP upload feature to FLstat (optional of course), though I've not figured the best way to do it. Apparently, MFC has some built in capabilities, but I'm not so hot on that. I'll also see if I can include any third party packages with FLstat...

I don't quite understand the "favourite version" idea - ideally every server should be running with the latest version, but not all do.

Still lots more work to do...

Cheers, Cryo.

PS: Thanks for the sticky in the Clans Forum, Chips - such an honour!

As it happens, this has turned out to be a complete rewrite after all!

If Joe and I can't work out how to continue compatability with FLSO, should I develop a dedicate GUI for FLstat? It would have to have all the options, support for FTP, and a builtin update timer.

Please let me know what problems you had with FLstat, and what would make it easier to use/setup/etc.

Cheers, Cryo.
