server players

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

Well you have reopened Pandora's Box: Athlon XP vs Pentium IV
Bottom line is one player needs up to 50 kbps upload from the server, you can neglate download speed of the server.

I've done a little study on upload streams. The average broadband user only uses max 15kbps. The average dialup user only grabs about 3.5kbps to 4.9kbps.

So actually you need to divide your maximum available upstream by 15kbps across the board, and that will give you your max users you can have. Though I've said it before, RAM helps too. A freelancer server should not be run with less than 1 gig, but the ones that are running 512 megs are for the most part on 768k upstreamed DSL or cable, and yes there are a few companies out there that offer that high a stream cable, mine not being one of them though.

Everyone does boast a lot about Pentium vs Athlon. Frankly a CPU is a CPU and I've taken my info straight from a motherboard source that I know, CPU doesnt really help that much unless you go to Duel's. In which case won't matter the company, because it will still come down to your RAM available. A server of 15 players max, uses about 400 megs of 1 gig, the server runs at about 200 megs when full, plus any other overhead you have taking away.

How do you define kbps? Kilobits per second or Kilobytes per second?

LOL, we were basically saying about the same thing, I was talking network traffic kilobits per second (kbps) and you were saying about data loadout kilobytes per second (kBps). Altghough 1 Byte = 8 Bits when analising network traffic you'll see that beside data loadout there control characters and packet retransimitions so a prety good relation between network traffic and data loadout is 1 Byte ~ 10 Bits

I find the statement about the cpu very uninformed we run the task manger/peformance window at all times 2 moniter cpu usage and compaire it with the latency & player count
on the 1.0 server it seemes 2 run very steady and dosn start 2 max until the server gets 2 arround 50 players
on the TnG it is also very steady very few spiles but it maxes at 20-26 (26 being the most we have had on at 1 time and it was running at 92%
on the RB server the cpu jumpes all over the place with many peaks and valleys when it hits 100% in a series of peaks then drops 2 very low lves in the valleys the server crashes the better the cpu the more data the server can handle ith better it will run...............

Have A Great Day
