Please HELP, LAN Server question

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

Please HELP, LAN Server question

I've been looking everywhere for the solution to my prob, but couldnt find it, hope that someone here can help!!!
Been playing the game in MP mode using a LAN server on another machine...IS THERE ANY WAY to transfer the account from that server computer to another server computer at say my friend's place???
I know the relevant account is stored in My Games -> freelancer -> accts...
However simply transferring the files from within that directory to another computer gives me a 'wrong password' error when trying to connect to flightserver running on the other machine.
I really want to migrate the LAN account to another server, ANYONE KNOW HOW TO DO THIS? Or can you refer me to a forum/post that answers this question???

THANK YOU!
Captain Morgan

Im afraid this has never been achieved (to my knowlage)

This is becasue although all players have their own ID the server adds its own extension to it to make their account details on the server.

When you move the files, the extensions given to them by the server will be different, and so those files can not be used.

There is a hard way and an easy way. The easy way is to make the second server the same as the first and the second server goes away. By copying the Mulitplayer directory including the accounts.cfg file, this defines the MP server you are on. This accounts.cfg file seems to have the special MP FL server ID needed to decrypt file names, dir names, etc and is the server identifier. Yet two servers on the Internet with the same MP FL server ID depends on the refresh rate and time of refresh as to which server you will see on the FL global server list. Not pretty. (yes, been there done that)

The hard way is to take the file from the first server. Create a new character on the second server with the exact same name. Find the file name of the new character file. Rename and replace the new character file with the file from the first server. Now you are back in business because you didn't transfer the account, you transfered the character(s) only. Works between SP and MP.

EDIT: spelling error.
