New Dedicated Server

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

New Dedicated Server

I've created a new dedicated server called

=======Volks Server=======

I.P. 192.168.1.100

It's a dual CPU
1 Gig ram dedicated server. It's mine and the first people to create accounts on it will get a 200k Bonus just for being so cool. Also if you have any problems, heres a place for feed back

c:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\exe\ in that directory there'll be a file called flserver.exe. Click on that, change the statistics the way you want them, make sure you have all IP and port issues cleared up, and bodda-boom, your very own server. You can even log into it from the same computer as you would any other Freelancer server.

Hey Ari.. just noticed that your posted your internal lan ip.. you need to post the public ip -- probably that of your router -- for people to connect from the outside world. If you're not sure how to get.. one quick way is to go to http://whatismyip.com that will usually spit back your machine's "public" ip address. You can also get from your router's menus, or via the windows command line, but hitting that domain is the quickest solution.

Alright. I've got my public I.P. 142.179.227.160 but the problem is Freelancer is using the internal I.P. How do I get it to use the one it should...

(people have been having connecting problems, and I know this is the reason)

On your router you should be able to configure it to allow your one system to see directly outside. Then, (based on your ISP), you should get a IP Address specifically for that system.

If you do this, be sure to get yourself a nice Firewall and Virus program to be extra safe.

Ari,
If you didn't specifically get a static IP address when you got your internet access, than the 142.179... address will change. In other words it may be dynamically allocated.

As for what you see on your MP list in FL, that is a combination of what was retreived from the global server and what flserver's are on your own LAN (FL says you should only have one flserver on a LAN). I see it on my LAN except my flserver is on another 'puter seperate from my play 'puter. (is this the way you have it? sounds like it) In the MP list of servers the LAN box should say yes for your flserver and also show the LAN address of your home network (192.168.1.100). Everyone else though will see your flserver through the global server and see your IP address assigned by your ISP (142.179... or whatever it may be).

And as genedefect mentioned, if you are making your flserver available to the world (connected to the internet) insure you have a firewall, preferably hardware. See several posts (several by me ) in the server forum for how to set up a tunnel through a gateway/firewall, a tunnel needed by flserver. Or email me.

If fact if every broadband user had a hardware firewall they would reduce many types of hacking significantly! But it's like UPS's (Uninturruptable Power Supplies), nobody thinks they need one until it's too late.

Cipriotis,
Were you logging into the gateway? In other words did you have your browser open and have a URL of "http://192.168.0.1/" where 192.168.0.1is your gateway LAN IP address? Most gateways allow you to surf to them so any system, Windoze, Linux, etc. with a browser can use them. Sounds like you were logging into some server through something else. Were you within FL ML global server screen and you tried to log into some flserver? If that server indicates it takes a password to log in, then you have to find it for that specific server. Are you saying Ari's Volk server is password protected?

Need more input to help...
