Options Are Nice

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

Options Are Nice

It's not a MMOG, but I would pay a subscription fee - and I think some others would too - for the experience of playing on a persistent, well-maintained, high-ping 120-something-player server.

Some people feel crowded on a server with upwards of 30 players. That's fine. They should have options (as they do). However, some of us come from MMORPGS and are actually *more* comfortable in worlds populated simultaneously by thousands of players. There's no right or wrong; these are only preferences. But to us, 128 players would seem a small thing to ask.

Would there be legal tie-ups? I don't know. It's likely Microsoft or Digital Anvil wouldn't care if someone was out there charging subscription fees to maintain awesome servers, because they could have chose this model and they didn't.

The server would have to be rewritten from what I understand, but it's an idea.

Simple reason why there are no big servers is the Server exe isnt up to it.

If and when DA make it more stable/lag free or wish beyond hope make a Linux server which should have less trouble than windows does, then we won't see servers hosting more than 32 players.

Yes, it would have to be rewritten.

I used to host a stable server up to 45 players pre-patch. I am hoping that since the patch, I can now actually use my bandwidth which should allow for up to 75 - 100 players

ur server is kinda empty.....

Yea, that is what happens when you take it off line for a month while waiting for a patch that solves the cheating problems.

Now, running a server has become an almost no matience issue, so it is back up. I average about 7 - 10 players right now, but if it builds up like it did when I first brought it online, it should be up to 20 - 30 average in about a week or 2

Proteus, I just felt the need to point something out. You said you desired a server with a high ping, but a good server is one with a LOW ping. It might have been a typo on your part...but incase it wasn't, I provided a little explanation. The number you get is how long (in milliseconds) it takes for information to get to the other computer and back. So basically, the higher the number, the slower it'll be.

Anyway I do agree, I would really like a stable server that has an average of 100+ players on at one time. With that number of players, someone could arrange a place for dueling. It's like players would take turns (2 at a time), while a bunch of other players could sit back and watch. Also it'll be possible to get groups of like a dozen players, it would be like having your own little fleet. I guess I can only hope that the Seattle Based server player limit can go up to what genedefect said.

Yeah that would be cool. I think the group limit is 8 players or so. Only thing with Genedefects server, you really got to be on your toes in order to not get banned. Probably be a good idea to get to know him personally, so he will be more careful when coming across your character name. You never know if your going to get to be in the next dueling event. I won't play there just because of his reputation for character loss/deletion/banning. I have read too many horror stories.

For what it's worth I haven't had any problems on the Seattle server in regards to nickname (Silent_Jay/JFP) or cheating since I don't do it (and I don't even know how). I've email Gene on a couple questions I've had and have received cordial and timely responses.

The only time I got a "ball-buster-ish" response was to a question I posted in these forums which was answered just two topics below (we were all noobs once).

Gene, i like your server and it's your right to do whatever you want with it. Keep up the good work!

Regulator is probably one of the most honorable, trustworthy, and kind players I have ever met in a game. I suspect the reason for the recent posts is that he is coming to the defense of his friend, Bone, as any true friend would. You will notice that even while defending his friend he doesn't indulge in name-calling, profanity or anything of that nature. It's just not in his character. Reasonable until the end..

Bone is a very honest upstanding player as well, and his latest flame-style postings are most likely due to his recent mistaken banning on your server. I expect that would get anyone hot under the collar. Being banned when you are guilty is not a big deal, but being banned when you are not kind of puts a stain on your personal integrity. Many otherwise friendly people get quite hostile when their personal honor is stained.

I really believe this has been a big mistake. I would implore you to unban his character (I can promise you he was not cheating) but I wouldn't expect you to bow to the wishes of every character banned (lol). Still, i guarantee it's just a misunderstanding, and I would wish for a kinder resolution. Please note that many players on many servers know Bone quite well, and not a one reading this would ever believe he was cheating. I laughed when I first read about it.

Sorry about that Genedefect. It is just my nature to buck the powerful at times and to help defend the less powerful. I tend to fight for the under-dogs. And I admit that your banning practices and banning of Bone pisses me off a little, so as a result I became very active on the topic.
