NEW sever: Chicago 24-7 4 CPU, 4 Gig RAM, Datacenter Hosted.

Chicago 24 - 7 in now online. IP is 216.33.68.100 Server specs are:

Compaq 4 700 Mhz (1 Meg Cache) processor Xeon server.
Microsoft Advance Server 2000 OS
4 Gigs RAM.
Compaq Smartcache 32 SCSI controller with RAID 5
Hosted in a state-of-the-art Data Center.
Tested 9 mbs up/download.

All are welcome to email [email protected] for the password for playing. Please indicate your primary player name. Look for updates on the sever news DAILY. We hope to be able to remove the password requirment after the patch is released. Do not give away password to anyone. Currently, player limit set to 40. We might be able to raise the limit higher, but this depends upon what we see utilization wise. FL-Server does use multiprocessors, but how effcient remains to be seen. Please email [email protected] for password, cheaters and rule-breaker reports, comments, and ANY lag, which we do not expect unless cheaters are online or it's your connection. You can also post cheater reports and problems here.

Rules are:

No PvP in Liberty space, unless attacked, and not just accident or play.
No cheating or mods of any type.
No wreak camping or gate camping.
No sexual, racial, or foul language names.
Keep system chat free of foul language. Children may be playing, so be considerate.
Do not give or loan other players more than 10k per THEIR level in a 24 hour period. You have to earn your levels on this board.

Rules are subject to change, but probably not. Currenty, the server news does not have all the rules, but OBEY the above or have your account banned.

Rule breakers will be warned, have their account deleated, or out right banned depending on cirumstances except cheaters, who will always be banned.

Notes: We MAY be opening up all the gates and jumpholes soon, otherwise, probably no mods at this time, maybe mods latter. Server will be randomly restarted two too three times a week for respawning once the MP patch is released and applied. We are currently working on a backup soloution for accounts.

It is our hope that this server will be one of the fastest, most stable Freelancer server online for yours and our enjoyment. However, please remember that the admins for this server have personal lives and that real life (and I hope you have a life...) will sometimes keep us from responding quickly to issues. We will, however, try our best and most of the time, will address any issues within 24 hours if a lot sooner.

Update for May 12, 2003: Accounts backed up. Hotpatch and other critical updates completed. FL-Admin will now broadcast in-game messages. Server description updated. Server news updated with rules. One new rule added, one rule modified. New player starting money raised to 8k.

So no PvP at all in liberty? What if someone is asked to kill some mass new account killer, or if someone wants to stop smugglers entering manhattan, or if there's a duel or something? Is PvP then alowed based on role players?

No wreak camping or gate camping.

Same as above... there's plenty of reasons a player would camp at the jump gates. Even the AI does for it's own role reasons. Is a ban still applicable?

No PvP in Liberty seems quite plain, smugglers are not fair game, he/she did mention self-defense as legitimate though.

Updates:

1. Passwords are being sent out now. All who asked for passwords should have them now. We will be checking email all day and sending out passwords to all who request them.

2. Player limit increased to 40. This is the first of several bumps in the next few days.

A server w/player limit greater than 30 sounds extremely cool but after spending all that time on Elite to get my ship up to par... *sigh*... I guess I'm still a n00b... only one ship on one server.

I played for a while on this server and it seemed to work, but now it has disappeared. What happened?

Server was reboot at around 6 PM yesterday. Otherwise, no problems of any types. Note, we will be working on the server today and tomrrow, so reboots are possible. We will try to warn you if we can. We just restarted FL tonight at around 01:50 CST without issueing a warning, which we avoid in the future if we can.

The server is online. HOWEVER, test players (which are all players at this time) will not be able to load their characters. Indeed, they should refrain from creating new accounts until about 12 PM CST today or when they see their orginal accounts available again, which might be sooner. After which, their accounts will be available. Note, you may not see Chicago 24-7 if you have the "Hide Never used server" option. New players should be able to create accounts and these will be migrated over to orginal Chicago 24-7. We are testing some things with the server at the present, and had to create a "new" Chicago 24-7 without the old accounts. Remember, we are stil in the "Testing" phase of deployment...

As long as ya'll are trying to preserve our accounts, I dont think anyone will mind too much. I know some of us would really hate to loose what we've built. Thank you for the update.
