He's read it, no doubt.
Question is, HOW dirty of a mind do you have to have to find his name offensive? It sounds like a bloody cartoon character, at worst. Well, unless your mind wanders into the porn area, then it sounds worse.
Isn't this game rated by the ESRB as age 13+? Given that, why are names like his a problem? Hell, why was MY name a problem? *L* I mean, even the most religious among the game players has heard the word "hell", and it was stated by their minister in an empassioned Sunday speech, no doubt. When I was last able to log onto said server, the "server news" pointed me at the forums here, and they didn't contain anything relating to the acceptability of names. So how exactly was I supposed to guess that my name was offensive to Gene? I had no warnings, I was just suddenly unable to use that server.
Gene needs to have a specific place to say what is and is not ok on his server. As it stands, he has no such place, and people are being banned (permanently) for treading across his hypersensitive name line. According to his post (after I was banned), my name shouldn't have been offensive. Yet I was banned. Honestly, I don't get it. He's the first person in 10+ years to view my name as offensive. I have the overwhelming urge to say "whatEVER!".
Is it his server? Yup. Can he do whatever the F' he wants? Yup. Does he realize he's banning players from EVER connecting to his server? (unless they want to give up ALL their time spent playing on other servers) .... not sure. I think he means to ban names, but he's banning accounts based on the FL ID that's determined when you install. As said before, kinda harsh punishment for a name he didn't like, no?
One hopes he wakes up.
