Hacked server???? anyone else have this issue?

Something happened with my online server that I can't explain without considering that my server was hacked into. Two players logged in to find their characters missing. What was really interesting was that only the main character was erased cause the seconday character was intact but had 0 money.

I did find something odd when I checked on the server, I had all these codes that were in red.

My server is passworded so only ppl that i know can login.

IS it possible ?

1) someone logged into my account and deleted it?
2)someone came in thru one of my open ports(these ports are opened for the game)

How can I prevent this problem in the future? are there tools that can help me?

Does any one know if the server maintains a master log of everyone logging into the server??

Have any other sysops encountered this same problem???

I've had a similar experience. I'm running an open server, anyone can join (TBP-Universe). Two individuals, whom I know personally, both lost their characters. However, their characters weren't their first character on the list. Both were deleted, even running recover software found no trace of the character on the hard drive. Very interesting, I'd like to see if DA addresses this issue in their upcoming patch. Otherwise, I really enjoy this game -- good buy...err gift...

Yes after careful research is has been discovered there are a few security "issues" within freelancer. At this point I'd advise you all to make backups, ( well i dont know ) and hope that DA adress this issue in their upcomign patch.

This happened to me over the weekend. My server was maxed out with characters, i was playing at the time, and the server crashed. Anyone who was playing at the time lost the character they were playing. I had two characters for my account, and they one I wasn't using was fine, but my main char was deleted. Anyone who was playing at the time was lost, others were fine. I have pworded my server (!!! Mr. Tauntaun's Univers !!!) until the patch comes out

i had this 2 but all i think happend was that a few player's charater's have been currupted when server crashed. 1 in a million or not
i sopose every time the server crash's there is a small chance it can currupted a player charater that is logged in

it happen to my server too, it chrashes and because the nature of the chrashes (were it comes up with the report bug window after killing that it closes) what ever it hadles at the time of the chrash is lost and incomplete saves are created so i don't think it was hacked just corrupted saved.
i had one guy tell me that he was testing a new mod and i told him to test it some were else and then he responed "i have deteced a virus on your server and it might chrash this server" about 2 seconds later it chrased there was no trace of a virus. neddless to say that freelancer had the recources to do that stuff just load a invaild file that is hadled by the server and bang it's out.
(that better hell? and yah it is i just never payed very much attation in english class :/ )

It seems English is not your first language, but.... punctuation, man! Very difficult to understand you, and even moreso because it's all just one big sentence.... : /

Just 'cuz yer male doesn't mean you can't use periods..... (man that was bad...)

Seen it before on other servers. I seem to recall Alpha Centuri 2 had a big problem with it a few weeks ago.

Probably a bug - there's so many of them in the current version that *nothing* would suprise me!
