Due to circumstances beyond our control, the stability of the Elite server has been compromised. It's has been getting progressively worse over the past week or so and if you've been playing on it lately, this will come as no surprise.

Starting in the early morning of Saturday, 3/22/03, the Elite server is being taken down for some serious maintenance. We're 99.9% sure that the instability is primarily due to a combination of two big things, and maybe one smaller one. The two biggest problems in no particular order are the use of characters/clients that are logging on with modifications to the .ini files and people using the Freelancer "trainers." The third reason is possibly when clients log in with 56k modems, but their effect on the server is minimal by itself, but compounded by the previous 2 reasons.

We're left with no real alternatives but to wipe out all the characters and password protect the server. We hope that people visiting here will do their part once the server is back up to self-police the server when they can. Alert the server admins of any unusual events such as people leveling up too quickly for normal time played or people appearing invincible or even flying around in ships that seem a little out of place. We all need to do our part to keep this server stable for everyone! This decision was not made lightyly folks, but something HAD to be done.
