Problem playing online

Hi,

Whenever I try to play online and I enter space, it seems that I can't do anything and disconnect within 10 seconds
I don't disconnect when I'm on the first planet and chat or purchase weapons/commodities.

I searched but I didn't find anyone with a similar problem so I was hoping someone could help me here.

Thanks in advance,

F1r3

I have not installed any mod

Perhaps I missed something. Are you playing on line with no mod?

I reinstalled it 2 times by now
Is "IT" Freelancer or did you have a mod, delete it and then reinstall the mod?

I reinstalled the game, not any mod or patch (clean install after an uninstall with savegames and settings deleted)

The weird thing is that i can play online on my laptop (but it doesnt work too good on my laptop) but not on my PC which is connected to the same router so there is nothing wrong with my connection, there must be some setting on my PC thats wrong :\

Forgive my daftness. If you are trying to play on line with no mod what server are you trying to play on? Your own or one run by someone else? Of are you just trying to play a game locally via LAN?

I have tried on online servers, not one that I made or one in LAN

I didn't try 1 server either, I tried multiple that are compatible with my version (1.0)

Do you have Vista? That causes lots of problems for playing online.

If you have a firewall, make sure that ports 2302-2304 are allowed and that Freelancer.exe is on the allowed programs list. If you've got ZoneAlarm (or another firewall), try shutting it down and try to connect again.

If your masking your IP this might make the server kick/disconnect you.

Okay, so your mod version (none) is right and you are at least connecting. You are undocking and last a few secs so it does not look like a cheat/error detection. It really looks as though you just have a poor connection so like the others said, you need to check pc settings not freelancer.

Anit-virus set to allow FL can still have background checks running, zonealram can have 2 sytem checks at about 30,000kbs using up CPU power. Switching it off altogether can work.

Vista as said has problems running FL if any other anti virus is present. I have had reports from at least 3 players in a week who have had to completely remove other AV from the pc to run with Vista.

Check (ctrl alt del) task manager to see if you have other background processes or auto updates running too. iTunes, Apple, HP, Quicktime and loads of other crap will set to run on start up when you install it and after you put enough of that into your machine you start to creak.

Oh yeh...if you are using wireless try running a cable to the dsl and playing via LAN. Also download a direct connect tool so you can play without going through the global server. I don't have a link for one now but a search on the TLR homepage should get you one.
