A cool mod, wish i could code it

I had a cool idea for a mod for either SP or MP. It's based solely on my love for the original Privateer.

The random mission generator only currently supports kill missions. Though it may be an installation, or recovering cargo, it seems like these repetitive nuggets of ingenuity are getting stale.

I'm playing the game (after the single player campaign) as a merchant. Though I would *LOVE* to see a mod to enable heavy transports, hirable escorts, and the like; I would really enjoy a mod to enable delivery missions. These missions would allow players to build faction with the various corporations (or pirates, via smuggling runs), as well as encourage players to explore more of the trade options available in the game. As the current kill missions already generate foes at a predetermined location, missions could have advisories in the descriptions (such as, where lane hackers/etc are reported to be, etc.) The mission generator would then build encounters at these waypoints that could be avoided via jump holes, taking longer routes, etc. etc.

Anyone else have any ideas as to the feasability of this type of a mod?

Thanks for reading!

MadProfit,

You know that's a great idea. Not only would it add diversity it could help the prospective noobie trader learn the best places to buy X equipment and where to sell it too...assuming a random mission generator could give you good places to buy and sell X items.

I wonder...can randomly generated missions scale beyond the system they are generated in? Strangley enough (given my Tradewars past life) I haven't tried the life of a Trader in FL as FL Singleplayer doesn't really seem to be conducive to it. They keep pushing you and pushing you into the role of a fighter because you had to finish missions to open up the gates to where you could make some money doing it.

Currently, I haven't followed up on how the random missions get generated so I'm not sure if it's based on INI settings or hard coded into FL. Hopefully not the latter.

Anyway, Cool idea.

To answer a question, yes randomly generated missions can take you into other systems. For instance, while in the New York System I took a Bounty Hunter Mission that had me Jump out to California (or Colorado - don't recall which) to capture someone. However, I don't know if they're only limited to one system away. And it seems to be rare since that was the only time I've had a mission outside the current system. Hope that helps.

Vorlanth,

That's good to know. Haven't had that experience but I'm glad to know it's possible. The useful trade routes involve cross system jumps.

Also guys , remember the commod info in commodity section of the base, click on a commod and it shows highs and lows for the commod. This could be used to generate mission, make the hightist paid missions the toughest , and easy ones the lowest paid. would also have to consider wheather you are allowed to land on the station or planet that you have a mission for. Otherwise it would be a bust. So with that in mind you have to have the mission acceptance feature check you rep status before approving you taking that mission.
