Well res hacker isnt cutting the mustard here what are you guys using to edit the dll infos?

I need to be able to create / rename the resource anyone got any handy apps floating around that can do this?

I have to do things a rather long winded way but thats cool, currently making up correct looking infocards to match the ship since the anubus wasnt the best one to go for first as its ids_infos arent actually in the correct format hence my initial problem.

My way of making the cards wasn't the most straightforward either. Copied what reshack could tell me from infocards.dll to notepad and just edited until it looked right.

Well basicly this isnt working properally when i try your method i get this error:
(just extracted all the info from your dll to get data format)

[Ship
ids_name = 458753
ids_info = 524290
ids_info1 = 524291
ids_info2 = 524292
ids_info3 = 524293

Ids error

As you can see all the ids_infos are in the wrong places and when the ship is purchased and you look at the inventory there is no description at all, just the stats.

When i try and rejig these numbers

ANy ideas dude?

Well lets count this as all user error LMFAO

Stupid me forgot to add 1 to the ids_info number generated by fl ini ref.exe hence everything getting switched and thrown all over the place.

Next time i'll use the ids_name option as you said too lmfao.

*bangs head on desk*

lol, that one got me too =)

I'm using the ids_info option now, tho..turns out the ids_name option requires a table number (?) and not just "1" as I initially thought. That only worked for the first ones.

Well, bleh..all this editing is making me head spin. Time to go actually play the darn game =P

Well, i have tried to just learn from all the other post but i finaly got stuck. I have successfully changed my ships name, and i have the infocards2.dll but whenever i upload my html files using reshack, they are not changed to look like that hex mumble jumbel they still look like html in reshack...then when i load the dll in the game, its just a bunch of chinese....literaly...

any ideas...?

i loaded them using the 23...but is that supposed to change the format?

You are probably not saving them in Unicode. If you have WinXP and using Notepad make sure you select "unicode" and not ansi in encoding field. Above that I have found that those XML files (if you extract them using ResHack) have some kind of 2 byte header with values (255, 254). I dunno if that's a part of unicode or a part that xml parser uses or some kind of identifier for the game engine but I am keeping it intact and all seems to work fine.
I am now successfully using a dll for both strings and infocards however stupid ResHack won't let me add extra string tables thou it does let me add new xml resources.

i am using win2k...

i am using the infocards_new.dll provided from Dixi..then i opened it with reshack, and when to the 1033 file, hit save as "info1.html" (when i save them as xml files, they dont work anyway, so i just save them as html).

then i open it using the BiniQDU v1.1 program, and deleted all the jumbled up text except for the nice html text and made one html file for the definitons and the numbers, then on just with the description, then one with the definitions only, and then one with the numbers only...i labeled them info1.html - info4.html

then i opened the infocards_new.dll and added them using 23,1 - 4, 1033

when i save them in reshack in the little window to the left, they still look like an html file and not like the orginal infocard_new.dll looked...

thats how i do it, please tell me what i am doing wrong

I got it to work!!!! yeeesss!!

this is so tight....since i was not using notepad to edit the files i never got the option for unicode saving...that was my problem

thanks you so much for all your patience....and someone needs to make a guide on this so others dont have to spend as much time trying to get it right

X-Lancer: Yea, I wondered about those 2 bytes as well. They seem to be autoadded when you import the xml into the dll. They're in all my new infocards, anyway..and I didn't put them there =P

Unless someone beats me to it (Zen?), I'll see if I can make a small infocard tutorial tomorrow.

While you ppl are at it, since your making escape pods for all the factions , make them sellable in the markets. Pirates love to sell slaves , hehe. Ofcourse they would be something the police would frown on. : )

Mine wont be ready by then X, but i am making a comprehensive guide to adding new resources not just ships, as the same format will apply to ANYTHING new added to the game from ships to things like thrusters & shields. Because of this i wanna make a guide that is relevant to adding anything at all to the game Then i worry about star system creation lmfao.

Now if we can work out a way of having everythign in the 1 dll, but i think we are hoping a little too much for the moment

Far too much work for this evening my brain has ingested far too much beer to cope with writing anything really coherant lol.

If anyone wants to keep up to date with the progress of this i have started using my forums zen forums as a kind of notepad to bring info together.

okie i have started the guide for this Here i am using my forums mainly because i can lock the topic from people being able to reply and spoil the quide with silly questions and aimless rants ***whistles quietly to himself***
