Cargo adjustment for traders

Howdy everyone!

I wanted to adress an issue with the cargo system. As you know when your ship has for example 30 cargo spaces, thats it. It can carry 30 construction machineries or 30 oxygens. wouldnt it be possible to vary the cargo consumption a particular item takes?

For example. say machinery takes up 1 slot, so you can cary 30, but if oxygen were to take up lets say, 1/4 spaces then you can carry 120 oxygens. Just thinking aloud I guess.

Have fun everyone...

sounds intreguing, but it would be annoying in some respects

I think you run the risk of making all cargos equal... Oxygen costs a quarter of X other commodity, so it takes up a quarter of the space...

Having said that, one of the problems I see with the game (and all trading games, come to that) is... why bother with the cheaper stuff? once you are rich enough to haul diamonds, why would you bother with anything else?

i dunno if it will be possible...... i dont see why you want to anyway

as far as i see it, 1 unit represents a certain mass of that item..... so it takes up a certain amount of space.....

@Moog

you dont once you have made enough cash from running the smaller stuff.... you dont need to go back unless you go bankrupt

I think a dynamic trade system would fix this problem. One could give each planet and base a consumption rate and optimum goods level...the further away from the optimum level the more that good would be worth and so on.

so what your saying is that you would have to determine the cube for each item and then convert the area of each ships hold to determine that cube allowed then so and so forth?
lol, to much i suppose but probably fesible.

I think it's just as RaK said, you don't pick up *one* diamond. You pick something like 1 ton of diamonds. Just like in Elite/Frontier (and maybe other cargo games?)
