Editing newcharacter.ini and factions

I'm trying to change the starting faction in newcharacter.ini. The only problem is I can't tell what my faction label becomes because I'm testing on a local server and apparently the only way to see it is if you are looking at another player (hope that makes sense, you cant see your own label). Anyway does anyone know how to read the rep_group tag or how to tell your faction label in game?

Your own label is whatever you have the highest friendly rep with...and it blinks in the rep screen...in multiplayer
