To all you modders, an idea

Before you say "make it yourself" I would kindly point out that between work, family and building various linux distros for isp's, work and home I am glad I just get to play

Anyhow here is my idea and I am sure some of you in the mod community would like this or maybe are already considering it. Unfortunately the ship classes and names will have to be changed to protect the copyright.

I would like to see some mods based off of the various battles found in the Honor Harrington book series by David Webber. Excluding the last book, the rest of the series had some very detailed an immense ship battles that I think could be duplicated with this engine.

Heck theres plenty other scifi books with grand battles that could be done as well, i just mention this one since im re-reading the series again.

Another idea (same author with Steve White) would take place in the universe in which the Shiva Option was written. Another set of great space battle material for any modders looking for ideas.

I loved Weber's and White's "Starfire" books, so far I've read; Crusade, Insurrection, and one other I forget the title as of now. Unfortunately I havent read and of the "Honor" series OR Operation Shiva. If they're anything like Weber's other books, then I say YES to a mod

Ooh... you've got my attention. I just recently started the series, and was nearing the end of the first book when I lost it a couple weeks ago.. need to dig it up so I can finish it. I was really enjoying it. But yeah, the setting seems like it would translate fairly well into Freelancer's engine.

The ships in the other books (Mutineer's Moon and the rest of that series), though, would simply be too huge, although it would be fun to see Dahak next to a planet ... *Coughs* Sorry, didn't contribute much to this thread, did I?

Yeah dahak and other planetoids would be too big which is why i did not mention those books

Oh since you mentioned Dahak, I saw an interesting site recently announcing an anime series in development at http://www.mutineersmoon.com/ involving those very books. Thought you might like to know.

Whoa, thanks for showing me that. I'll definately have to keep an eye on that project!

Anyway... back to the subject, yeah, I think the ships in the Honor Harrington series would be really interesting to apply to Freelancer, but the shields concept might be a little hard. What'd they call it, an impeller wedge or something like that? Interesting that it's effectively impenetrable on those certain areas, but there's absolutely no protection on the sides.

On the other hand, Freelancer isn't real capital ship friendly, as I've disocvered in using the battleship mod I've seen floating around. Don't know how well it'd work without the ability to actually -use- the capital ships. Especially since there were so many ineteresting weapons introduced even in just the first book that aren't practical for non-capital ship usage...

Eh. It's worth thinking about, and for any of you who haven't read anything by David Weber (and enjoy reading sci-fi), I strongly suggest you go out and pick up either Mutineer's Moon or On Basilisk Station.

Well don't look to me to make a mod but I think I'll start reading this series of books =)
