Is this the makings of an editor that microsoft decided to dump or is it just wishfull thinking on part?

Post Sun Mar 09, 2003 5:54 pm

They most likley have an editor themselfs... U dident think they sat and programmed all this **** from source code and .inis right?

Post Sun Mar 09, 2003 6:56 pm

I wonder if anyone over at DA would be kind enough to release this editor if they have it...

Post Sun Mar 09, 2003 7:23 pm

While I belive the mod community would LOVE to have an editor, do you really think DA or M$ would release it FREE? i mean, that would almost surley NEGATE thier ability to create a addon or mission pack, therefore loosing potential revenue? I for one, would love it. I can see it now - ppl porting in Wing Commander missions, etc.. hahaa..

With the few (to ME) shortcomings of the game, you guys are going to make it worth playing over and over again..

I don't know why they wouldn't release an official editor. Many games that have strong editing communities have tools given to them by the dev team. It really wouldn't hamper their abilities to make an expansion pack, since everyone would buy a pack that was officialy done rather than a shakey mod.

well i think most people are doin very well without one, as long as you look thru the inis n stuf properly we should have some good mods available even if we don'y have an editor

Don't give up hope though, Microsoft released Dungeon Siege with an editor.

Post Mon Mar 10, 2003 12:40 am

but Dungeon Siege is no freelancer!

why do people always compare games together if some good RPG game is not like Diablo 2 or Dungeon siege then its already seen as a crappy game.

jeeezzz, GROW UP

Well releasing an editor to the public and using their internal tool chain are two completely different things. It costs a lot of money to cleanup/stabilize, seperate out (i.e. modularize and seperate from code they don't want to release) and more importantly document any internal tools for public release. And more likely than not, the internal editing tools are tied into professional tools (i.e. plugins for Maya or Max) which they won't expect Joe-Modder to own.

I hope they do release some mod tools but I wouldn't hold my breath. Dungeon Siege was built from the ground up knowing full well that they'd release the tools to the public (and it still took them a few months to polish them up after the game was released).

hey, I have max, I wouldnt mind a tool that tied in with it

According to the time they needed to complete this game, it looks like they coded everything manual without editor :-)
