i would love it if someone or some people with get together and create the groups of files needed to make all ships available, i see every once-in-a-while some one has another ship available, why not just put them all in and then put a link to the ini files... then again im very lazy plus i dont have the game yet to actually play with the files
Hi all,
I've been busy modding the ini files and have found a few things; probably nothing that you guys don't know already. I haven't been able to recreate that 'negative worth' trick no matter what I do (I've tried making certain comodoties negative in worth and many other permitations but it doesn't seem to work for me). One neat trick is to alter the ships available at Manhattan. Since the ship dealer has 3 stands here, you can view three ships (other bases only seem to have one stand) at a time by changing the lines found here in market_ships.ini, for example:
[BaseGood
base = Li01_01_base
marketgood = oe_package, 0, -1, 1, 1, 0, 1, 1
marketgood = lf_package, 0, -1, 1, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = le_package, 0, -1, 1, 0, 1, 1, 1
(first digit seems to be your required level, second is friendliness and third needs to be 1 if the ship is to be made available. Not sure about the other digits yet).
gives you the two liberty ships and the kick-arse Anubus from the order; A snip at just over 1,000 credits! Just mess around with these and place whichever three ships you want to look at. Some ships aren't available in the demo but you'll be supprised how many are; lots of freighters are available, including the nice looking Bretonion one. The Kusari ships look a bit daft with their dragon wings, I think the urge to place 'culture markers' on the house ships got a little out of hand there. A wwII mitsubishi zero colouration with a nice big red hinomaru and maybe some neat Japanese house emblems would have done the trick in a more stylish manner. It's a shame other interesting cultures aren't represented in the game too but I suppose that's because they were incinerated in starlancer.
I'm very interested in any news on the UTF file format; I'd like to write a filter for my 3d modelling software if I get my hands on it (did the same for homeworld and numerous other games).
Tim.

ReVeNaNt had a legitimate question in the "How do you edit...", refering to the list of things that forum members have editing knowledge. I would find some specifics helpfull as well. Forum members "Tachyon" & "Alpha" mentioned in another thread that people are to research previous threads for answers before posting questions that have already been answered. I do, but still dont have the time to constantly review forums posts for new & possibly usefull info. A SEARCH funtion for the forum would allow us to find what we are looking for and stop some of the sily questions (not all..people really are idiots). Or maybe some forum moderators to ask users (who show they know how to do something) to make up a quick explaination or tutorial.
Even a simple "changing this line to this does this";straight,specific, to the point. I mean, if you have enough time to post numerous, somtimes lengthy posts about something, why not spend that time doing it right? This game is extremely "editable", and alot of bits of info is going to be tossed up on the forum. we need a better way of sharing it. How about a forum with only edit definitions & tutorials?
Anyway, I found a piece of edit info: in shiparch.ini, the following line
"DA_archetype = ships\...." will change the in game graphic of a ship, as well as the number of hardpoints/weapon spaces when buying equipment upgrades. I copy & pasted the line from other ships. This is similar to swapping out the ship graphics in starlancer.
Unfortunately, I think it affects all ships of the type you are tinkering with.
The better way would be to figure out how to change the ships available for purchase. Some info has already been posted & I saved to a tutorial folder on my harddrive. "HINT-HINT---SAVE POSTS YOU FIND USEFUL!"

Umm...Ive changes some things. Ill say what Ive changed in case anyone want the files.
Ships have different top speeds. Light fighters are fastest, Heavy fighters remained the same and Freighters are very slow but have more armor and carry more cargo(Very expensive to buy too).
Shields have been stregnthined. I joined a server and got blasted 3 times by a PK and each time it took him a head on rush and 6 seconds to kill me. This wont happen now. If your gonna attack someone, be prepared for a 60 second fight.
Turrets shoot farther because they should
Mining produses more so its not a waste of time to mine now.
Missiles are faster(to make them more usefull) but they still cant catch Light fighters.
Mines last longer and are safer to lay(so you can lay mine fields )
Sensor ranges have been increased for Freighters(so they might be able to avoid danger better)
NPC Transport ships are tough so you might need torpidos to stop them which now makes torpidos usefull.
Cruse disruptors disrupt for 25 seconds now.
There are other changes but I forgot them
I couldnt change the Infocards on the ships, Hardpoints and I have failed to make turrets shoot automatically when you are not directly controlling them.
These changes didnt crash the single player missions.
NOW...my question is, if I run a server, does everyone that joins have to have the changed files?

Hello,
I like your tweeks , so can you zip your universe folder and make it available for interesents?
I think that when you run a server, that info is server-side...not quite shure...

I dont think u want it yet. The prices arent quite right yet, I took out thrusters and Im workin on a way to make ships harder to spot with scanners when their engions are powered off.
Im open to suggestions

as to who needs what....brand new stuff needs to be on both client and server...edited existing stuff only needs to be on the client (atleast so far in my testing)....this includes so far...ship/weapons/engines/shields/thrusters/bases...another words...anything that someone else wouldnt have the visual refrence and name tag references for has to be on both...
id upload what ive done so far....but its not really a mod...just an uber uber ship to pound the pkers who cheat...*evil grin*
