Please Read! FL Editing info

Hi all there.
I'm one of the "oldest" members of the Lancersreactor editing community.
In the last few days, this forum has ben flooded with posts, and it makes our job much more difficult.
Many of the new Topics are either asking if something is possible, or how to do something. Many of those questions have been allready asked.
Before you post, PLEASE look through the titles of the postings that are there.
If you want to know how to edit the cargo-space of a ship, and there is a thread "Everything you want to know about ships", look in there, maybe your question has been answered. We don't need 3 or more threads about the same thing.

For all of you who want to know what is currently changeable:

You can change:
-The stats of ships
-The location where ships are sold
-The stats of equipment
-The location where what equipment is sold
-The location where wich commodity is sold for what price
-The location of bases, tradelanes, jumpgates etc.
-The Stats of asteroid fields, nebulas and similar stuff
-Patrols (who patrols where, new patrol pathes etc)
-Basically everything about the universe that is information
-Names and Info-text of stations, equiment etc. (You need Visual C or something similar to do this )
-You can add new ships, equipment, stations etc (everything mentioned above)
-3D models
-Textures
-Icons/graphics
-Missions
-Ingame cinematics
-Savegames

You can't change (yet):
-Character animations
-Ship collision boxes
-new effects
-Anything that is related to the actual game engine. We don't have the sourcecode of the game, so we can't change what is hardcoded.

The above list is by no means complete. it's just what came to my mind while writing this.
If what you want to know hasn't been answered (here or anywhere else) please ask. Everyone here is willing to help.

It seems that the current title doesn't draw too much of attention ...

unfortunately, speaking from a lot of experience unless you want to rigorously moderate the forum this is just going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

The floodgates are open, and the uninitiated and lazy are going to pour in and demand answers for things already asked over and over.

My suggestion is to make a faq, post it, point to it. Answer these inevitable posts with "read the faq" and lock the posts.

This will taper off in 2 weeks or so. The important thing is to not feed trolls, and not lose cohesion of whatever community you want to preserve.

It also appears one can change the effects, on shields, weapons, engines etc. I.e. make the tail on beams longer, change their colors, or increase the radius on the shield bubble, (the effect you hardly see when you shoot the ships if they have shields). Or make super large explosions.
And replace the sounds ie. Make torpedeos sound like photon torpedoes, or lasers like phasers from star trek. =)

Could a pseudo-SDK be written with the current knowledge of where and how to edit such things?

I've taken a look into the ini files and in some, there are just lists and lists of coordinates with no key on what does what. If anybody knows already what some things mean, could we compile them all into a document and post it to the editing features page?

That would be really helpful.

the "new ships" means you can add something like a "Liberty Defender MkII" with more cargo space, hull or similar stuff, and still have the original defender in the game. but you can't add a new 3d model and hardpoints yet, afaik
