Jumpgates between servers

This is something I would really like to see implimented. Basically, modify the server software so that you can have jumpgates between servers.

In other words, if i am playing on "Dr.Shoktars" server, and I enter a specific jumpgate, it will automatically transfer me to "SoandSo's - Gold" server.

some problems would be:
*actually hacking the server code to get this to work

*transfering player stats between servers, and the possible implications for cheats this would entail.

Anyways, what do you guys think?

I don't think this is doable... You would have to make a single gate for every server you wanted it to go to, and you'd have the problem of them going down occasionally. I would only do it for TLR sponsored servers I guess.

I'm no coder, but I don't see any particular reason why this isn't doable. I just checked the size of my accounts folder and they seem to be quite small 9k +/-. I see no reason why a group of servers couldn't set this up. It would require a user to d/l a current version of the server group's system containing the various jump gates and install it.. As it would probably be most convienient to have a seperate system set aside for the server jumps. I imagine it would probably require somthing memory resident, outside of the FL game, running to activate the server change and over see the account transfer. Hell, with the trainers floating around I see that part should be doable.
Besides idea is pretty awesome. I realize it's not piloting your own personal planet, but it's pretty sweet.

I know this is old, but I am looking for information in old posts. Here is approximately how you would do it.

1) Write a utility to replace Freelancer's server selection screen.
2) Have a system in every server, with jumpgates only to other servers, and to some outside point. Have everyone's new character start be in that system.
3) When someone attempts to change servers, have the utility send the character info to the new server, and delete it from the old.
4) The utility disconnects from the old and connects to the new. You appear in the jump system for the new server.

My question is...

What''s the point? Until people create entirely orignal universes on different servers, there is no point.

Correct me if im wrong, but didnt Unreal one's multiplayer have something like this in it for selecting servers?
I might be thinking of something completley different. but i think this is possible in some ways.
