Buyable armor upgrades.

Need thought's on the balance of these. The game comes with a number of armor level's that are just used to make some of the AI's tougher. I haven't changed them as yet, though i have added prices, but i might create a separate list if it makes the game to easy, so as to balance it more.

These use the hull plating commodity for the pic and verious alloy commodity names.

$2500, basic alloy, level 2 required, 17% bonus to hull bonus
$12000, high temp alloy, level 8 required, 36% bonus to hull.
$150000, super alloy, level 20 required, 60% bonus to hull.
$500000, niobium, level 40 required, when i add the level, 120% bonus to hull!!!
I'm going to see if i can add more player level's.

When i can make my own name's i'll make a few more types. And the 120% maybe to good when added to the best ships. Maybe if i could restricte it to certain ship's, but haven't found a way as yet.

file that has the armor,select_equip.ini
i just used scale 1, 2, 3 and 5.

what ever happened with this?

Nice idea, but the level-limit is 38 ^^

Which can also be modded.

Renaming equipment stuff is in a data library equipresources.dll. Something close to that.

I read you can only rename the NAME that apears such as hull panel into Amor.

I think I changed (for my pilot escape pod mod) the card info by open that file with an hex editor, go to bottom of file where strings (text letters) are store. Just re-write the description there. The computer will just display whatever you type in.

I do not know if you can exceed the original file length so do not do it. Fill in the rest of unused text spots with null letters (hex 00).

so this works? the buying armor upgrades? if it works could we get a link for the necessary files?

if you do that,

the weak ships will stay weak...

the strong ships will be damn near unbeatable.

if you can, you should do it for EACH ship...

lets say you need lvl x to buy a ship... you want to upgrade THAT ship, then you need to be lvl X+a to purchase the first upgrade.

lvl 1 to get a startflier
lvl 3 to upgrade the starflier one time

lvl 30 to buy a Falcon
lvl 32 to upgrade the FALCON one time.

get it?

I have done this, but any ship can use any armor upgrade.
Player level limit so far is 40.

that's the thing... by the time you can buy a lvl "2" upgrade, you can also get a much better ship...

by the time you can afford a lvl 5 upgrade, you've already bought a class 10 titan.

if you keep the 1-5 upgrades on a per ship basis (it also doesn't carry over), you can have a variation on the ships out there...

so the player would have to decide... one more upgrade to a Defender? or save some more money to buy the Crusader, and RE-armor it.

and possibly mod the game to say... more armor? less powerful weapons... or it provides less energy to the weapons... meaning that the max is still the same, but the optimal class is lower... cause it would need more juice from the engine to push the ship with the additional weight of the armor.

just something to think about.

great ideas goobers ... really hard if not impossible to implement

.. from what I know anyway ;p

the game allows you to make variants.

there is a "or_elite" which is the anubis... and there is a "or_elite2" which could also be an anubis. but more like a freighter with 600 cargo capacity.

so all you have to do is somehow, make the armor purchase change to one of the variant... okay... maybe it is impossible... cause that requires code mod.
