Auto-turrets

I was just messing around with the weapons and found the following "property"(sp?) with guns/turrets:

auto_turret = false

now i'm wondering, if we set that to true, would that mean the gun would fire automatically?

i first have to find the id of a standard turret (shouldn't be a big problem, but i have some other things to do before i try that.)

would be damn cool though

does only seem to say that it's a 360° turret... it says true in every turret :-/

eh not with me... I have several with auto_turret = false, I'm letting notepad replace every "auto_turret = false" by "auto_turret = true"

It will be done in about 10 minutes, and then I'll check it in game.

are you sure that the auto_turret = false are at turrets, not at simple guns?
i have a true at every turret :-/

auto-turret just means you can hit H and swivel the view to aim in any direction with it.. I think - not sure - but that's why the key command for turret view is called auto-turret .. set some of them that are true to false and use them, and compare..

There's a few references to auto_turret in the pilots_population.ini in the MISSIONS directory.

auto_turret_interval_time = 1.800000
auto_turret_burst_interval_time = 2
auto_turret_no_burst_interval_time = 0
auto_turret_burst_interval_variance_percent = 0.200000

Don't know if this is related.

So how did this work out? I'm wondering because if it worked out well, the server is being modded to have this! No more Titan turrets being useless...and I wouldn't mind having the Saber one covering my ass.

Tried it and, as far as I can tell, it made my Eagle turret sit perfectly still, which is very nice indeed.

And I thought that stupid backward turret would finally do something.

There has to be a way to do it. The AI's auto turrets shoot quite well. In the begining of the game, I'd get owned by their guns. I just think it would be amazing if the Auto-Turrets could be engaged.

Another good idea would have them optional for Auto. So people in Transports don't have to deal with them Auto-Firing, but they could if they wanted to. This would make blockade running a lot easier.

Maybe someone can make a custom item, called Turret_Computer or something that takes up say 10 cargo space costs some dough say 5k for balancing reasons and automates the turrets.

Anyway I´m thinking of editing the enemies shields giving them faster regen rate, and maybe some other tweaks then release it as a "veteran" mod or something.
