I've worked on other mods before, so I have some idea of what to expect. Most of it will likely be done by myself, the only part I expect to really need much help on is the equipment modification. Don't worry about commitment, this mod will happen if it is even remotely technically possible, and I think FL is a lot more moddable than we've been led to believe Thanks for the support all

A few suggestions.


1. This will hopefully be easily accomplished once the .ini encryption is broken. Once it is, all the shield, hull, armor, engine, and other values will be changed for better overall game balance. For example, Kusari will be fast but weak, Rheinland will be strong but slow, Bretonia will have huge cargo space but will be slow and have weak weaponry. Liberty will be a mix, a jack of all trades but master of none, good for doing a little of everything. One specific change we hope to make is to reduce the superiority of heavy and very heavy fighters. They
should be strong of course, but light fighters generally do not stand a chance against them.


Large cargo space seems kind of like a weak bonus for Bretonia. How about balancing it like so;
Kusari - fast ships, weaker, a few higher-level weapon mounts
Liberty - medium ships, average, a few of both higher and lower-level weapon mounts
Bretonia - medium ships, stronger, a lot of lower-level weapon mounts
Rheinland - slow ships, strongest, a lot of both higher and lower-level weapon mounts
Pirate - fast ships, average, a few medium weapon mounts
Civilian - medium ships, weakest, largest cargo capacity, a few lower-level weapon mounts
This is just in general... the other ships could have other stats depending on how these balance out.

I'm hoping that part of this balance mod phase is makeing the houses ships more in line with each other (I get that sense, but not directly). What I mean is that A defender COULD go head to head with a Valkyrie and have SOME chance of survuval (being able to mount similar level shields & weapons, armor in the same neighborhood, etc.).

My main beef with the current ship line up is that you'd have to be an idiot to fly any of the houses ships (except may be Rhienland), beyond their use in the SP missions. I'm guessing what this is going for?

BG, yeah thats the basic reason for that part of the mod. Beige, the Bretonia ships will definitely be able to hold their own in combat, but they won't have the best equipment. Hull will be comparable or perhaps stronger than Rheinlands, since they have a lot more problems with pirates to deal with when shipping goods

I would make one house armor really strong, deadly guns but weak steering

another not as strong of armor or weapons but very fast and agile

and the third would be a blend of the two meeting somewhere in the middle.

(easier to mod too i am guessing)

I agree with biege, the Bretorians must have escort fighters that can defend convoys. Making them weak in weapons will seariously effect the way the Bretorians are looked at, only mearchant players would want to be the Bretorians.
you must even things out to each ship, it seams the ships are weaker at the start but stonger and better at the end, and i agree that needs to be changed and i am sure some yanks dont like there ships to be weak but guess whos next in weakness? the Bretorians, the goal i thing should be to make everybody satisfied, the reason i got a beef against making the Bretorians have basically all cargo ships is i am going to start a clan called the BRETORIAN NAVY and if you make the bretorians "cargo" house of ships than i know that quiet alot of people will be disapointed in canada, south Africa, australia, new zealand and most of all Great Britian herself wont be pleased so can you maby changed the idea of making the bretorians a "dull" house to play.

In the end I intend every major ship to have it's place, and every fighter should, in the hands of a skilled player, be able to stand up to another. Bretonia will have other advantages as well, such as strong hull/shield (almost as good as Rheinland) and will be the only house with multiple shield batteries and nanobots. Yeah, only one with "multiple"

By the way, I've got a little status report to make. I've completely mapped out the engine_equip.ini which means I can tell which engine belongs to which ship, so now I can easily alter ship speeds, and balance them out. I will have the basic coding done sometime tomorrow! The Balance Mod is currently at 15% code complete. If all goes well, I hope to be ready to begin balance testing the mod. I'm going to need a server to run the mod, as well as volunteers to download the files and help make sure it's all balanced

I have to agree with beige, whilst the ships probably will be all balanced, Bretonia sounds alot less fun than every one else. Hauling cargo doesnt sound very British aswell.

Everything else sounds really good, and i think itll be a real good mod.

Being able to pilot transports would be nice but the cargo hold would have to be significantly tweaked for player use. Seeing how they can carry upwards of 400000 cargo easily, you could be rich from just one run of about anything

Yeah but if you lose the cargo you are badly ****ed.

I dont think ship should be cheap and they are very weak no shields at all. Maybe one million for the one what can carry 200k and the one what carry 1000k about 25-50 million.

i think that you should moderate ships to the history of the nations navy,
in world war 1 the germans had heavily hulled battleships but they were slow,
the germans also had subs witch could sneak and destroy convoys and some warships. the british had fast heavily gunned ships but had weak armour,
the the americans had a little of every thing in there fleet, the japs bought british ships but they didnt have the weapons that the british had but could easily be repaired by the great jappeneese labour force.

my idea is to

-Bretonians have heavy guns, fast but weak armour limited amount of shield batteries.

-rienland should have heaviest armour but be very slow and even weapronery as the british and the only "house" to have cloak.

-liberty should have a little of every thing to make them even but there cargo ships should be cheap and weak.

-kusari should have similer ships to the british but have lots of nano bots, in theres ships but weaker weapronery than the british.

this is a even way to make everybody happy and i took this info when these nations were all powerfull and had ups and downs to there navies.

please take it into consideration and maby make a little ajustments along the way if you do.

P.S. you have the pirates to have cloaks to make them good at sneak attacks on convoys "like geman subs in ww2 and ww1" this would make the pirate people happy! also i like some of your ideas and i hpoe im not to neagitive some of your ideas and the gamesoriginal ships are similar to mine too!

make bretorian ships cheaper that way it would be fairer

and ohyeah my suggestion what i whas thinking about whas change the speed for every type of ship.

like this:

freighter: normal speed 69 m/s
afterburner: 189 m/s
cruise: 289 m/s

light fighter: normal 99 m/s
afterburner 219 m/s
cruise 319 m/s

heavy fighter: 89 m/s
209 m/s
309 m/s

very heavy fighter 79 m/s
199 m/s
299 m/s

AND IAM ALSO APPLYING AS A BETA_TESTER
