Planet sized sphere''s

Is there a way to make a sphere that is planet sizes or can be resized? I tried using a planet but without the atmosphere. It will not let you get into the sphere. But if you use a jump hole or gate you can get inside. Problem is once inside you can just fly out without being stoped.

Dose anyone know a way around this?

Erm, do you mean you are wishing to create a one way only sphere that's about the size of a planet? You can get in, but can't get out? Or is it that you just want a sphere you can go both in and out of?

No I want one that you can not go throu ether way. If that is possible.

It seems to me you want something like a dyson sphere - you can't fly in, because the surface is solid, but if you use a jumphole, you can't fly out because the surface is solid.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do this. You would need an inverted planet sur on the inside, and a normal one on the outside.

Now i am really baffled, are you saying that a planet with a jumphole stuck inside it can be flown out of it? Why are you sticking a jumphole inside a sphere that no-one can escape from... or is it for a death match kinda "hell in a cell" idea.

I'd go with his dyson sphere, although I haven't actually looked at it

Yes it's for a arena. So the only way out is by jh or jg. Tried using a planet but didn't work. You can't fly into it but you could fly out.
You kind of have the idea Xen()morph!

Yeti if this is connected to your other post about the dyson textures then your best bet would be to make a CMP with MS3D.

Two Spheres one slightly smaller than the other, make a tunnel connected to both spheres as a way in/out, the SUR exporter should be able to handle a low poly model like that okay.

Did that but not sure how big to make the modle. And where do I get the sur exporter? Havn't seen one unless i'm missing something.

If you've already got a planet that you jump inside of, then why not fill the planet with a radiation zone and then add an exclusion zone to the middle of it. Set the radiation levels at a very high level and watch them fry as they try to pass through it. Easier to do than a new model and SUR with the added bonus of watching them die when they try to sneak out.

That would be a good idea but this is for a pvp arena. For more then two people. and it has to be semi transparent.

But not sure of what the size of the model should be. Or how I can come up with a inverted sur file?

If your planets a FL SPH file then resizing them is a breeze as they don't have a mesh as such. Open it with UTF-Edit and expand the Sphere node, you'll see M0,M1,M2,M3,M4,M5 these are the 6 sides of your planet, M6 is the atmosphere, Radius is the size of the planet. Sides is like the material count in a mat file it's a check sum to make sure nobody's screwed up.
Radius is the one you want highlight it the set the "interpret data" to float, highlight it then click "edit", the simple data window will have something like this.
1000 .000000
0.000000

Change the bit in Bold to whatever you want, I have one at 10,000 but for you set it to between 50000 and 100000 that way it'll take up half a system, after you've done that click the "update" button and save your SPH file.

Coding it into the solararch.ini is the same as coding any other planet.
nickname = bryans_test_10000
ids_name = 60203
ids_info = 60204
type = PLANET
DA_archetype = solar\planets\custom\bryans_test_10000.sph
material_library = solar\planets\custom\bryans_test1.txm
material_library = solar\planets\planet_earthgaiacap.txm
material_library = solar\planets\detailmaps\detailmap_rock01.txm
material_library = solar\planets\atmosphere.txm
material_library = solar\planets\custom\bryans_test.mat
mass = 1000000
solar_radius = 10000 <<--has to be the same size as the SPH's radius node
shape_name = NNM_SM_MEDIUM_FOREST_MOON

Adding it to a system is the same

nickname = Ss01_05
ids_name = 459093
pos = -90909, 0, 134770
rotate = 0, 0, 0
archetype = bryans_test_10000
ids_info = 65765
spin = 0, 0.02, 0
atmosphere_range = 10200
burn_color = 255, 222, 160
Ambient = 35, 35, 45

zone
nickname = Ss01_05_death
pos = -90909, 0, 134770
shape = SPHERE
size = 10100
damage = 30000000
sort = 99.500000
density = 0
relief_time = 0

You can even get a death zone for the outside, then it's a case of stick a nebula zone on the inside and add an exclusion to it.

This I have allready done but seeing as how you can fly out of the planet so I would have to use some kind of exclusion that would kill is just not what I am looking for. I also tried to use a texture on the planet that I made with no resaults.

You see I don't want anything to kill players while they are inside except for other players. It's more of a idea along the lines of the gladiators. Put 1 - 4 players from opposite sides in the arena and let them fight it out untill one side wins.

Then you may have a problem getting your idea to work, SURs work on the outside of a model, I don't know if we can get them to work on the inside.

Argh's Pretty Planet will save you time making a model, you get an MS3D file that has 2 sphere's that you can re-texture to suit.

I'm just wondering are the sur files so that the object can take damage? If so then I would not need the sur files becuase I don't want the sphere to take damage!

I thought sur files where a mesh file but in a diffrent format? I'm thinking if you can import a sur file into milkshade then you should be able to invert it but would need to be able to save as. Since it is a simple shape it might work fine.

Anyways it was just a thought.
