Maimum # Systems Allowed

Does Anyone know if there is a maximum number of systems allowed in Freelancer.
I'm working and it will not allow me to add anymore systems. BTW ... I'm at 210 ... and have plans for more ... but it will not take anymore. Any Ideas ?

ANd if you try to add them manually?
There should be enough space for over 300 systems.

I have tried to add them manually ... the new systems crash the game. Even if the system is just a copy of another WOKING system. I'm talking a system with just a jumpgate/jumphole. Still crashes the game.

When does it crash? When tryign to enter the new system? If this is the case, the other end of your jumpgate/hole is not correct.

Looks alright to me. Try deleting one of your other systems and try this one that's crashing in its place... that would help.

Still Wouldn't let me add this one. However It did let me Add a FW04,5,6 ... before it stopped letting me add. That was why I was wondering if anyone knew if there was any kind of restrictions to the number of systems, or factions, or commodities in the game.

Well, if it DIDN'T let you add your new system even when you deleted an older one, then logically, the problem is with the system.

Are both systems listed correctly in Universe.ini?
Are the system's co-ordinates unique?
If two systems have the same co-ordinates in universe.ini, that will cause a crash.
With as many systems as you have, duplicating co-ordinates is easy to do.

To the contrary, I routinely put multiple systems on the same coordinates without any complaints from Freelancer. Even if it was a concern, the coordinates are floating point numbers, not integers, so in essence there is just about unlimited space on the universe map.

NO duplicate coordinates .... I map them out on an excel spreadsheet ... because there are so many .... and yes they are listed correct in universe.ini

As for the maximum number of systems, I just made a test mod that added ten thousand empty systems and Freelancer didn't crash. It did make the universe map awfully slow, though. What the actual limit on systems is I don't know exactly, but ten thousand is probably far more than you would ever want to include in a mod.

Maybe there is a maximum somewhere in the amount of paths either illegal or legal that the game can handle?

What you need to remember is that FL loads most of the files at startup and keeps them in memory, market, mbase & navmap files for 200+ systems will be a huge drain and probably why it crashes on you.

I thought that too but with 1gig of ram and 20 gig for swap ... the swap is only using 10 k with freelancer running ... I'm thinking I must have missed/mistyped something in another file not related to the system and that's why it's crashing the new system
