Gmax not avalible and cant find exporter for 3dsmax8

Hey!

Im rather new to Freelance, and modding in general, but i managed to gte a decent enough looking ship modeled in the trial version of 3dsmax to try and put in to the game. However, on all of the tutorials i have read it mentions using Gmax, which is no longer download-able on the site, and i cant find any plugins for 3dsMax to export my model as a quake 3 (md3) file... Any suggestions?

Thanks!

P.S. My ship is made up of about 20 different "shapes" in 3dsMax, and i am afraid that for some reason the ship has to be one object in the program to work correctly? If so im screwed, unless theres an easy way to merge a whole bunch of objects into one, without changing their shape...

1.try another format - milkshape supports more than any other program, period. If you can't find a format ms3d can import you can also look for an importer to ms3d from whatever formats are available
2.nope.multiple groups shouldn't be any problem afaik

Okay thanks. what if i export from 3ds max as a obj file, into milkshape? as they both already have the exporter/importer for that type of file..

i have no experience with those apps,i'm a milkshape man i started w/ truespace 2 a long time ago and well,i need a dumb interface to work effectively

obj should work fine for the meshes afaik(sorry) but i think it may not support texture mapping - just try it and find out for yourself i guess

If you want to use gmax, you can find it on TurboSquid.
You'll need the MD3 exporter for it to export into MilkShape, though. I'm pretty sure that's here on TLR, if not, email me and I'll send it to you.
