Gmax

I'm very new to this whole scene, but i think i am showing some ability with gmax. I just recently built the metal siren valkyrie from robotech, and wanted to try to finish it up. Problem. Getting it out of gmax and into something else for skinning. I just got GMAX Plugins and Scripts by Chris Cookson and for some reason it keeps telling me it has failed to initialize to exporter plugin. I really didn't see any readme about how exactly to setup the plugins, but from what i gathered, i just drop them into the plugins directory. I'm hoping we can figure this out, because it took me a bit of time, and i would really hate to have to get 3dsMax and redo the stupid model. (that and i would have to learn how to use 3dsmax, which me and it didn't get along... i really didn't like it for some reason) At any rate, any and all help relating to gmax would be immensely helpful.

The MD3 plugin will fail for several reasons:

1. Make sure that you tell it that you're just exporting animation frame 1.
2. If it's still failing, your model is too large, make it smaller.
3. It may very well be that the current versions of GMAX no longer allow this plugin to work. It was kind've a... "loophole" in GMAX, which is not supposed to allow users to export to normal, importable formats- Discreet wants professional users to pay for a full license of 3DS (and get newbies feet wet without letting them go very far- I've always thought this was thoroughly stupid... what Discreet should do is sell GMAX for $50 and make it able to export 3DS, because it's not worth the price of a full-fledged toolset anyhow, and is strictly "3D with training wheels"... but I digress). I was wondering if this would be closed at some point... so that may be what's happening. But I doubt it- they've known about this loophole for quite some time (that plugin's ancient history).
