The U***crew

As most of you know this lot have been causeing problems on other Freelancer forums and threatening to steal mods. I've been on their forum site ( I'm not posting a link as I'm not giving these arseholes anymore publisity than can be helped) and those of you who use server and client side mods can relax a bit more. Most of the good stuff is on the server side and they can't get at that.

Does anybody recognize this:-
Manhatten -> Fort Bush VIP's buy at 200 sell at 600
Juno -> Fuchu Prisoners buy at 200 sell at 1200
I haven't check Rebalance yet to see if its from us (if it is I hope its 3.5 beta 3 or Delta 2 as they are both f*cked ).

server operators for colours elite you might want to check you setup as they've been on without your mod.

They are trying (I use this word loosely ) to make a super mod but they really haven't a clue how to mod Freelancer.

Any more I can dig up I'll post here.

Sorry, but who are you talking about? I was gone for a while, and when I came back I saw a lot of post about somebody stealing mods, but I haven't figured out who "they" are.

a Clan called UberCrue

there were 2 threads about them showing that they are stealing mods or the code of it
first they came to my community insulted everyone and told that they will use the code of the Crossfire mod and several other mods to create their own mod
they have been banned coz of this and the other mod creators here on LR were also not very happy about what they did and wanted to do

a few weeks ago i got a mail from one of them telling that they finished their mod and that we can do nothing against them using the code of other mods without permission of the original creators
the final line on this mail was that their mod is better than all others and that the mod creators here are all noobs coz they took so long to create the original codes while UC just needed 1 month (to steal it)

Well, um...

I guess, imo... that there's not a whole lot we can do about this. Kind've sucks that they don't just steal code and just not credit the pioneers who originally worked things out, like most modders do

At least with things like ships, it's obvious who made what... that's kind've hard to do that with INIs... I "tag" mine, but that's because I'm building dev. kits, and I *want* people to know which sections were specifically added/changed by me.

I guess that the only good part is... they may have done a "monster mash" mod by slamming a bunch of features from other mods together... but my guess is that they will not be able to make it stable and bug-free without basically re-writing very large portions. A big, truely innovative mod has quite a few inter-connecting features, and their boastfulness aside, I'll bet that it takes 'em forever to get it working right. If they ever do. With mods that just add a few ships / minor features to FL... well, there isn't much protection for them... except for the fact that, to use the mod, players need to download it. Which means that they'll have to post it on TLR, and you can "call them out" then.

Let's not go crazy with this...
After all how many hoaxes were done on TLR been the beginning?
I wont trust them until I see some mod that features things from Crossfire + whichever mod they took...
And I dont think we'll see this in a while, because TLR is where mods are found at 90%, and well they can't use it. And they already lost a great part of their reputation as they got banned from here.

Finally, any player who could dig far enough to find their mod would most likely be someone that knows about mods.. And whenever he'd see things from other mods, he'd just scrap it.

If they wish to play alone in the dark with a bad reputation among the whole community, good for them

My 2¢...

We are the noobs? lmao
O wow, Any idoit can take a code and throw it into a ini. file. It takes a long time to plan out the ideas and then see if it works.
Those people have no idea how to make a mod. Chances are the mod is super buggy.
Yea I've heard of the clan and heard they suck. (Time to look them up and hunt them.)

Try to calm it down a bit folks, as of yet I have even to hear of these people.

Don't forget the forum rules with regards to bashing/flaming clans - not just people.

Take issues up directly with the parties involved via their forums (if they exist) or by email - but do not attempt to stir up a mob, incite hatred etc on TLR.
Anyone have questions/does not understand what I mean?

My apologies Chips this thread wasn't meant to be a flame fest, my intention was to see if our modding community can identify anything that I find as being from their mods. This would be enough evidence to threaten their ISP with being blacklisted and as you know an ISP thats been blacklisted very quickly goes bust, and an ISP will very quickly sever the link before that happens. Its one of the ways that the authoritys get rid of unsavoiry material thats online.

look the best would be to ignore them... i have banned them on my community and im not going to their forum to start **** coz its not worth it

i have better things to do and im sure you all also dont want to waste your time argueing with a bunch of kiddies which have no sence for whats right and whats wrong.

i suggest just to observe what they do... if they spread their mod somewhere and if they do there is still time to react
i mean they are banned on most fl communities now... and they wont be able to survive for a long time without ppl even knowing about them
lets just ignore but keep an eye on them

i would of just sent an email back that those mods are copywrighted and try to call there bluff

Why wont they just ask for the right to use parts of mods in there mod and give the credit to those who's idea it was or mod they are using. I have used several mods from other people in mine and all were happy to let me use a portion of their mod to make mine as I like some things about all the different mods out, and some things I had to figure out and make myself, because nobody had what I wanted made yet. If you look hard there is just about every type of mod and Idea to be D/L here at TLR. I said just about every type as new things are still being added day in and day out…

I will always give credit to the people who had the Idea even though I may change it totally around to fit into my mods. But the Idea was still the person who thought of it no matter how much you or I modify, and or change it. They should be given the credit. I don't know of any mod developer that would not allow there mod or a portion of there mods to be used in other mods as that is a complement to there abilities. Not saying that there are not any but I have not ran into any yet.

I believe everyone here at TLR is trying to help advance Freelancer to excel into a great game. Remember also that everyone is different, and likes different things, which is why there are so many different mods out, and some look allot alike but are different in one way or another to match that developers thoughts.

If they wanted to make a super mod, they should've just asked. But they didn't, and now they are banned from almost all FL communities. If they go somewhere, they are almost immediatly banned. Sometimes they aren't even given enough time to post once before their banned. No clan can manage any kind of mod with this kind of banning. They have nowhere to exist. They can just sit in their sick, deluded forum of theirs and attempt to make a mod and advertise it. Besides, if word gets out that they've released thier mod, we can all boycott it. It'll probably suck anyway (Not to be a generalist, but from the looks of their methods and whatnot, they have no clue on how to mod).

Just ignore them.

Unless, of course, they surface on your forum. Then ban them.
