Bending the Unbendable

This is a Proof of Concept project I started, that I wanted to know if someone could help me fix it so it looks like a normal tradelane, that just bends. Click Here to download it. Once you test it, you'll understand what the problem is.

That's not that big of a problem. The tradelane effect is really annoying, but all you need to do is get rid of it altogether and *bam* problem solved. It looks really cool though. Maybe you should make a neverending circular lane. Subway! =P

Actually, a subway would be an interesting concept. This way you could concievably make a vast network going not only on a 2D plane, but 3D as well, and you can just get off wherever you want. Stations would have marker bouys in the tradelane to let you know your coming to a stop.

It didn't take me long to do this. I'm supprised It hasn't already been done.
But anyways, I would have removed the effect, but I don't know where it is. If you got any ideas, let me know.

Its in Effects.ini, i've messed with all the tradelane effects. What might work is a generic effect that doesn't care which way its pointing and thus would look good with a bending tradelane.

[Effect
nickname = basic_tl_player_travel
effect_type = EFT_LANE_SHIP_TRAVEL
vis_effect = tradelaneinship01 <-- Change to whatever you want, or eliminate the entry altogether
snd_effect = tl_wind_int

I've removed the tradelane effect and updated the file, and it's perfect, except for the slight jurking, Thanks. Also, If you have any other ideas for it to improve, let me know. I was thinking about submiting it to lancersreactor as one of their downloads under the download list, but I wanted to perfect it first.

Anyone have any ideas on what the tradelane effect should be?

If someone could fool around with a copy of the jumpgate/hole effect and make it partially transparent...that might look good.

OT- Hey blackhole. Why has the modding school like died. I only see 1 post a day, in the 3D m0deling classroom. If its not to much for you, I think you should find out the status of all the teachers -Forgottenone. I mean, since weredragon left, no more weapons coding for me. ;(

Yeah, mainly cause i've been stuck up on the mod, and have no time for it. Luckily, i found someone who does, and he is acting as my vice-prinipal, and will hopefully bring some life back there. Here is the problem: WE HAVE NO ACTIVE TEACHERS! We have 4, and thats just not enough. The rest have retired or are inactive, such as forgottenone.

The only way to breathe life into our school is for more teachers. Please, if you have the time, lend some help. Its a great concept, we have the students, but it will die unless we have teachers.

And i tried sticking the jumping effect on tradelanes. No luck

If its really a proof of concept project - the concept was proven 2 years ago... by myself - and at an even earlier date - Giskard.

Back then no-one bothered with the "Proof of Concept" idea - things were tried and discarded if they weren't good enough, or included and shared if they were.

*sigh*... *Slumps away with boatloads of work, along with modding school, and NORMAL school*

OC: Would any of you like a scripitizing program? You know, scans you mod files and makes them into scripts. Just curious

I would. But dont kill yourself over it because of me. Maim, maybe, but dont kill yourself.

Post Wed Sep 07, 2005 4:31 pm

Heh, i'll try

Post Wed Sep 07, 2005 6:14 pm

Sorry Chips, I didn't know you had already done this. I figure it was just a simple idea, so why not try it. If you wan't, you can close this thread. I mean, if it's already been done, no since in keeping it around. Do whatever you want.
