Crash to desktop when launching from planet

The general place to discuss MOD''ing Freelancer!

Manhattan_Guy,

If you can start the server.exe and run the mod in MP and use a lan connection to freelancer.. then when you initialise the game, error messages appear on the console.. and by watching the console it may give you a hint as to what is wrong.. It's a method I use a lot when testing as errors appear in red and warnings in yellow..it also shows system entries and exits which can help pinpoint problems in system files.. The text that appears can be highlighted and copied to notepad or wordpad. If/when the mod crashes, it sends an error report to a file called fl-server-errors.log located on the root directory of C:\ drive.. typical reports are like this:

1: E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Common\Archetype.cpp(60) : *** ERROR: ArchDB::Get(2425843851) failed
or a very common one:
1: E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Common\GoodList.cpp(450) : *** ERROR: Cannot open goods file ..\data\equipment\engine_good.ini

Now if i'm preaching to the converted forgive me but I have read the post and you dont mention it.

One other thing.., if FLscan is giving you an error on engine_sounds.ini it may mean that the problem is there.. sounds to me like good place to start looking..

Dunno if any of the above will help but it's worth a shot..

Try deleting ALL the save files for the MP game (lan servers) - so that no saves remain.
Then give it a go. Contrary to popular belief - the spew is useful in some areas, but when it comes to an encounters crash that is wrong - you won't see a darned thing on the spew.

@Chips: Jop, found that out the hard way. Anyway, I really doubt the error is in engine_sounds.ini. It is still encrypted and untouched.

Okay, I will try out both your proposals and give you a feedback. Thanks for the help.

Okay, here's an update:

First of all, renaming the savegames folder MultiPlayer and SinglePlayer to make the savegames inaccesible to the game didn't change anything.

So I tried the flserver solution. I joinded the server with a new character. When I am launching and the loading sequence is over, I get a "connection has been lost"-message and find myself in the main menu. When I leave the game and look at the server console, after a few secons it says, "flserver has encountered an error and needs to be closed". In fact, flserver shows quite a lot of warnings and errors. Here are a few:

1. - E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Common\CEqObj.cpp(454) : *** WARNING: alloc_equip: Archetype[0x8000bec6 not supported/equippable!
I checked the hash: this is the engine used for the liberty dreadnoughts.

2. - E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Server\gf\pubGF.cpp(135) : *** ERROR: Cannot find accessory comm_wilham
E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Server\gf\pubGF.cpp(135) : *** ERROR: Cannot find accessory comm_reichman
These two are there several times. All directly beneath each other.

3. - E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Common\GoodList.cpp(450) : *** ERROR: Cannot open goods file ..\data\equipment\engine_good.ini
As you predicted, this error also showed up? What is it?

have you any bs wrecks ?

if so note the loadout, copy it as diff name and make the wreck use your new loadout, from which you remove the engine

No, there are no liberty battleship wreckages in the system or anywhere...

By the way, that's the only error I didn't manage to fix. All others don't show up anymore now. But still I get a crash, and still it doesn't matter where, so I don't think it has something to do with it.

I am now using an fresh copy of Freelancer and manually install my mod (I fortunately kept a FLMM script up to date). It went fine, until I added the factions. So I will add things very carefully there now and test after every faction added into the files. Hopefully, that way I can finally track the error down.

My nerves are blank and this doesn't make sense to me, but hopefully I'll find out what this damned error is.

Those errors aren't causing the crash... but, to fix them:

Open up the engine_goods.ini file - hit space bar, and then save it. This will get rid of the "cannot open file" stuff.

To eradicate that engine problem, go into the your system file for:

Li01
Li02
Li03
Li04
Br01
Br03
Ku02
Rh02

I cannot remember other systems with battleships in - anyhew - search for the battleships stations, and then find their loadouts. Add a suffix of _station to the loadouts (so its like rh_battleship_station as the loadouts nickname).

Now go into the loadouts_special.ini file - and search for the names of the original loadouts for the battleships, copy these and paste to the bottom of the file (so thats the Bretonian battleship, rheinland, kusari and lib!) and add the suffix to the nickname - so they are now called rh_battleship_station etc.

Now remove the flippin engine from the loadout of said station
I think there was something else too - like a tractor beam or something that you should remove from the station loadouts as well. The reason for renaming them loadouts? Because if I remember rightly, its also the loadout used in the single player file i think.
