Just 1 question

The general place to discuss MOD''ing Freelancer!

Just 1 question

Hi guys, I'm new here and I am wondering if there is a mod that simply makes all of the ships in the game buyable/pilotable without making any other changes. I've noticed the discovery mod, but im not interested in anything other than buying/flying the ships in the game.

Dan.

Argh's XML toolkit mod is probably your closest bet - it only has two new ships (i think) and unlocks every ship in the game(again i think - there might be one or two not in there but i believe they're all there)-also the tweaks to gameplay are well worth trying, like no weapon classes and rebalanced weapon stats to make more guns useful

That Argh XML thing crashed my game. Actuailly, I'd be happy if I could just get a mod that added a cargo ship with 1000 or more cargo. I tried that Akira mod, but it crashed my game and corrupted it so that I had to delete the whole game and reinstall it. I just hope that XML mod didn't do the same.

Yep, just as I thought. That Argh XML thing corrupted my game files, now I gotta rip the game out and put it all back in again.

Modding the cargo to 100 is easy and you don't need a mod to do it. Change it in the ships.ini file. As to fixing what another mod dis, deactivate all mods, install the SDK and your ready to go clean.

@John : If you never installed the SDK before putting Argh's XML Toolkit, it is totally normal that it makes you game bug. Reinstall it and apply the SDK...

my bad dan/john- i should have thought of that but i just assume that everybody is using the SDK nowadays - note to Argh you might want to update your mod's notes to stress the importance of having the decompressed INIs - sorry you had to reinstall dan , just a reminder - remember to write down your ID if you're playing multiplayer and backup your saved games folder if you have progress you can't bear to lose

Ok, how exactly do I edit the INI files? And what is SDK?

BTW: It's no biggie about having to reinstall Freelancer, I'm a patient guy.

Post Sat Aug 06, 2005 11:41 am

Ok, I found the SDK, but what dose it allow me to do?

Post Sat Aug 06, 2005 11:45 am

All the SDK is, is the uncompressed files that Freelancer uses to set up everything in the game. Prices, Pilots, Ships etc etc....

You should install v1.3. Then download and install the Freelancer Mod Manager (FLMM for the search function on the main page).

Then you should just double click the flmod file (Argh's XML toolkit) and it should install all by itself.

Then go ahead and play.

ok, so again; how do I edit INI files?

Post Sat Aug 06, 2005 11:54 am

Open them in notepad and change whatever you want.
If you are asking for specifics, go to the sitcky's at the top of this forum for editing nooby questions.

Theres allot to read through, and I don't see anything titled "how to edit INI files". I actuailly dont have a clue where these elusive INI files are, or how to edit them. Could you please point me in the direction of the thread that spcifically discusses how to edit INI files?

Post Sat Aug 06, 2005 2:02 pm

First things first. Download and install the FreelancerSDKv1.3.
The SDK is the only way (for noobs anyways ) to get the ini files.
When you install it, it will ask you where to install it. Install it to your Freelancer base folder. I.E. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer
Then all the ini files and such will be install there. Then you go to that folder and open the files and start poking around. The ones you want are the obvious ones. Just look for entries with "price = " in it and change it to whatever you want.

Now, go do some research as I think the search button in the forums is broken. Other than that, download Dritzz's Complete ship creation guide version 4 and in there are some instructions on changing price and engine speeds, and shield strength and hull strength and cargo.

Good luck.
