When do bribes appear?

Hey y'all - I'm working on a portion of my mod which may have a nice spin-off mod. The point is to make it possible to choose who you want to be pals with at the start of the game. Basically, what I want to do is have the startup location at a base in a new system. There will be a new faction - the Freelancers Guild. They will be the only faction you start out good with - everyone else will be hostile. On the station, there will be bribes available to "liason" factions; e.g., if you bribe the Freelancer-House Faction Liasons, they will make your rep good with the naval and police forces, and keep you hostile with the criminals; bribing a criminal liason would do the opposite. I can do most of that, but here's a difficult feature I'd like to add: I'd like to make it so when you bribe a liason, it makes you neutral with the Freelancers Guild. Also, I'd like to make it possible to bribe a liason only if you are friendly with the Guild. Finally, I would make a really expensive bribe for the Guild that could serve as a bit of a "reset" for players later; in other words, if your reputation is screwed up, or you'd just like to join the criminals without having to go all over the place paying them off, you could just pay off the Guild and then pay of a Liason ($$$ allowing, of course).

All of that brings me to the question; does anybody know how I can make it where you can only bribe faction B if you're friendly with Faction A? It seems to go that way in the game sometimes, but I can't find documentation for how it works. Thanks for the help (and sorry for the ridiculously long post)!

Hi Overkill!

This might not be the solution you wanted, but I'm quite sure that there is no other possibility to have bribes for faction A only, if faction B likes you.

My solution would be the following: The bribe for faction A is only available on bases, which are run by faction B. So, if faction B does not like you, you are not allowed to land on their bases and thus cannot get the bribe for faction A. However, to get the bribe you only need to be neutral with faction B.
One other thing to try would be, to make the bribes only available from members of faction B. I'm not totally sure, if a neutral faction will offer you bribes. I think they will do, but if not you would have what you want.

Hope this helps!

Thx - I got it working. Basically, I have a middle-man faction which is friendly at first. This faction is the only one offering the needed bribes, and as soon as you pay for the rep hack, you're hostile with the middle-man faction. This makes it so you can only buy the bribe once. I may have the mod finished soon, so I could post it here eventually. Once again, thanks!
