Is there a simple program to put hardpoints on custom ships?

Hey everybody! I was helped a little, and the tutorial was great, but milkshape 3d is a little too complicated. I need a simple program that i can use to put hardpoints on my custom ship. If it turns out okay, i might put it on lancers reactor. I hope to make a totally balanced ship called the Seraphim. Please help.

HardCMP is the program you need. Do a search for it on this site to download it.

Actually, i downloaded that program, and it's cool and all, but i need to get a 3ds file type and turn it into a cmp file. Milkshape 3d keeps on getting an error report when i try to convert it. Is there any other way to get that type of file without using milkshape?

Currently there is no way to get a model into Freelancer except going through Milkshape.

But why is that? Can't anyone make a program that just transffers it into a cmp file? Thanks a lot though Louva.

I think the answer is because it works for most people and very few people see a need to make a program that works with other programs. As to how easy it would be to write that sort of code, I have no idea. Not my field of expertise.

Um... try exporting your ship from 3DS in different formats, and then importing into MS3D. OBJ is my preferred format, since if you're going to work with UVMapper Classic, that's what you need to be in anyhow.

And if anything's wrong with your model, MS3D may crash. It's a lot more sensitive about things like zero-length tris, concave objects, etc. than most modeling environments. This actually a good thing, because most game engines can't handle bad geometry either.

Thank you everybody. You really helped me out a lot.

We are working on providing a better solution but there is no timeframe on when it will be available.

Something better than HardCMP?

o_0

That's hard to imagine. Will it do all of my thinking for me? Will it output THN scripts with all of the proper vector calculations? Will it shine my boots?

Superspider,

Are all your gruops in the correct order, largest group 1st and (in this case) named seraphim, followed by the groups in size descending order. Exporting a ship without hardpoints can cause milkshape to throw an error, even if using hardcmp I always export with Hp/Fixed/HpMount, as a minimum.

Though I am curious... What's so hard about creating hardpoints in milkshape? They are simply three vertex's arranged in a triangle and connected to make a face.. then for simplicity flattened on the 'y' axis. using that as a template copy, move into position then rename..best thought but not that important if your fixed hardpoints appear before the revolute... as thats how they will appear in the .cmp file.

Well, when i click on the place that i want to put a hardpoint on, it looks like a spider just spun a web on my ship. Lines go everywhere! Though thank you for the tip about exporting, i'm currently upgrading ships that i like with Hardcmp. It is an awesome program Louva!
If i could get the seraphim into cmp format, then i could do everything else. I think...
Thanks everybody for your help. But i do have a question. When i have an upgraded ship that was made in Hardcmp, and i do everything that supposedly needs to be done, and a put it for sale on planet manhatten, it shows up and all, but when i click on the select button, then freelancer shuts down. thoughts?
Thanks a bunch!

okay, i can buy the ship, but when i start flying around, after a minute or so, Freelancer shuts down. Did i do something wrong?

Look in the FLServer console window for errors when you launch your ship, eliminate them all and this will help. Any red ones are bad.
