New mod Idea

I was searching for mods to download when i thought of a good mod idea - Starcraft...

Let me explain more detail - For experienced ship editors this should still be quite a challenge to get right - The base idea of this mod is to add 3 new and exceptionally powerful factions/races and to pull this off correctly you would need to create bases, planets, AI, music, ships, AI models (on bases and portraits) etc.. for each race Terran I suppose you can mostly use the default characters from stock FL but Zerg and Protoss will need to be created near if not all from scratch

Also I would like anyone who decides to even try to make this mod please know how to set it up - For example the Protoss main homeworld planet would be Auir because it is sacred to the protoss - Also zerg should be like the nomads except they have a massive system filled with zerg ships, bases, planets etc... And to not makecreating a huge zerg race not worth it, it would be an idea to be able to either fool the zerg, go into their systems undetected or something like that so you can use all their technology (well, lack of it )

Behaviour of the factions is a bit tricky also, Terran and Protoss have both been at war and allied through starcraft campaings so possibly protoss rebels with small arms bases and light - heavy fighters might fight against terran while terran rebel factions do the same to protoss but the actual terran and protoss race leaders are allied and zerg is basically against everyone but as I said maybe you can get covert missions to say explore the zerg systems undetected and bring back the base layout information or something - This mod sounds very complex but if someone can pull it off I think it would be very interesting

If you email me [email protected] I can get most if not all the info you need if you decide to make it (Pictures, Information on ships and bases, Character bio's and things like that - but if your a starcraft fan making this you shouldn't need it

Let us know when you've built it Takkun I'd like to see it too, but what you are talking about is a whole new TC mod. Not many people have the time to do that (those that do are already working on other TC's or large scale mods).

I have no experience making any mods... So obviously it would be foolish to start with this - Also I don't have much time at all spare but if anyone does attempt to make this TC - Or extremely large complex time consuming add-on - I will help as much as I can by trying to organise other people to help, getting information for ships and bases and the like and Pictures, portraits and art to help create the objects in game... As much as I want to see this done I'm not sure if anyone else has the time...

WOW, I always walked with the idea in my head of a Starcraft mod.

Freelacer: World Of Starcraft

Really nice to see someone is thinking the same =D. But making such a mod takes alot of free time and research on the storyline and shiptypes. I'm learning more about modding FL now (thanks to the community ), so maybe I could give it a try in the near future.....

Well...

I guess my feeling about this is that Starcraft isn't a game about being in outer space. I mean, each side has a very small number of flying things... it wouldn't be a very interesting game. And the Zerg animations are (thus far) something we'd find impossible to replicate.

So you'd basically end up with a TC with a very small number of ships on the three "sides", and wherever you strayed from Starcraft's art to add variety, people would probably whine about it, or just not bother downloading it, if the quality wasn't extremely good. I dunno whether this is a good idea, really... it's just like the Halo people... you'd be making up large parts of somebody else's universe... and you'd need to be artistic geniuses to pull it off

That's the big catch, imho... good mods are complete game designs. Evolutions, Epsilon, Free Worlds, and TIE Universe immediately spring to mind as complete game designs. I may have issues with their choices, and may think that I can do better, but they're complete ideas, and they deserve the respect they get. If you want to really tackle something like this... you need to have enough skill to match them. Developing such skill requires time and effort... if you just keep cheering and hoping... that's not going to get you there. The difference between those of us who actually get things done and those who keep coming up with "great ideas" is that we put our time where our mouths are

At any rate, sorry to be such a downer. I just get a little weary of watching people ask for other people to work for free... and then not get their hands dirty. It's not that hard to get started modding... especially if you use something like this (shameless plug) to get started.
