Need mod help

Hello there, I'm in interested in making a mod where I add a few ships to the game and be able to run on my server. Sounds simple enough. Here's the catch, I wanna have it where people who have the mod can play with people who don't have the mod. I've seen this done with the FireBalance Mod. Can the creator of the FireBalance mod or someone else experienced give me a push in the right direction? Thanks.

A sever side ship mod???

Perhaps I wasn't clear. What I mean is that when you play on a firebalance mod server, you can play normally without the mod and it won't kick you. For example, the firebalance mod has the enterprise on it. Therefore, someone buys the ships and then takes off from a planet. Let's say, me, Joe Smoe, happens to come and see that player who just bought the enterprise and took off. Typically, the server kicks you cause it doesn't know how to render the ship to you cause you don't have the mod. Well, in the cause of firebalance, all I would see is a maybe a Titan. Does that help you understand what I'm talking about?

If that doesn't make sense, I'm sorry. It's hard to explain. The best way to summarize is the Firebalance Mod enables the server to host for both modded and unmodded players which can play together without repercussions. Hope that helps.

Well, looks like you have to have a server-side and client-side mod in order to things to run smoothly. I tried making a mod but it didn't work. Can anyone help?

I can only suggest that you contact the Admin people at the server you saw it at and ask them if they would help you, or, try and contact the mod maker.

I did have an idea about this earlier. I do have a solution but its a bit limited and i`m not sure that it would work.
It relys upon renaming the old ship inside the mod to be something else. So, in the mod we have a new ship called say JACKAL. Its got its own archetype but its shiparch is identical to that of a TITAN (except for the model used).
Within the mod, the nickname of the ship is co_elite2. The same as the old titan.
So hopefully, correct me if i`m wrong, if a player joins the server he/she dosen`t see the jackal (because they don`t have the mod), but they see the titan instead.
But, It would mean though, that the players who have the mod would see different ships to the others. Meaning, If a non-mod player buys a titan, he/she sees that, but the mod-player would see the jackal instead.
How could players buy ships that are new anyway? I guess they just wouldn`t show up in the shiproom. It shouldn`t crash.
Any progress?
