Platform, if nobody else is going to do it, I am! HELP!!

Nobody really showed any interest in helping whith freelancer: Platform so im going to try (don't be pessimistic)

First off, i need to check out how to change tradelane meshes to create the illusion that its interplanetary jumps rather than some space-highway

Can the effect of Cruise be Changed, if so, how?

Can I change the size of the starfield? in order to make the maximum visibility higher (planets dissapear after 280-300k, so does the sun, possibly going through the starfield)

I need to resize and retexture a planet, what tools to use and how?

1) To change the tradelane meshes, you could edit the texture, or remove it altogether.
IE:
In SolarArch.ini you'll find an entry:
[Solar
nickname = Trade_Lane_Ring
DA_archetype = solar\dockable\TLR_lod.3db
material_library = solar\Solar_mat_TLR.mat

Change it to this:
[Solar
nickname = Trade_Lane_Ring
DA_archetype = solar\dockable\TLR_lod.3db
;material_library = solar\Solar_mat_TLR.mat

Problem is, you ouldn't see the first one, to dock with it.

The Tradelane effects are in the:
Effects_Types.ini
Effects.ini
Gate_Tunnel.ini
My mod doesn't use tradelanes, so I'm unsure how to do what you want.

2) Some of the aforementioned files affect how cruise looks.
Constants.ini affects it's ACTUAL speed.
And the Engine_Equip.ini affects it, too.

3) Changing the size of the starfield could be done with "Model Tool," but I don't think it would have the affect you want.
I believe that the FL engine is set to stop drawing objects beyond a certain distance.

4) To resize a planet, use "ModelTool."
(However, Freelancer Explorer can do it, too!)
To retexture one, use "Milkshape."

Watch your 6!

Thank's, I'll try to look into some of those files and see what is inthere.

I thought of changing the actual model, not the texture (ok, the tl texture would be ugly on a spere or something so I'll change that too), the amount of tradelanes can always be set to 2 right?

about cruise, allow me to say it in another way: Can the effect of cruise be removed? (not the speed just the visuals)

And that retexturing thing, i thought more in the lines of replacing the existing texture whith a higher resolution one. if i resize a planet the old texture will be a bit too small (which it is already)

But thank you, I wouldnt get started on anything if people didnt tell me where to look.

Ok, I have Tried to:

(A - Make a ship dockable

(B - Make a base fly around (BB Missouri)

None of em worked, and im unsure how to do

I tried yesterday, gave it a pilot that could fly, proper equipment, physics entries from shiparch to solararch to the actual base entry, nottin.

if your going to put a base to make it flyable then i woulden't copy the entrys over, instead i'd copy the model and mat texture entrys and get somthing big that flys and copy that entry, then you need to look at the base file and look at the hardpoints to see what you going to use.....

if i'm making this hard to read then i'll try a step by step thing.....though i never done it

If it can be done, then a mobile base would indeed be very interesting, and would be worth an entire full-length tutorial with lots of screenies.

well TNG has flyable bases, but there banned atm.....

EDIT: i've had a quick look at them and with out editing the .cmp it would be hard but posible, i'd just make new hardpoints my self for it, shall i continue with the project?

Go 1: well i got it in there with out freezing but one problem, no engines.....

go 6-9 or so, well i got the whole thing to work !!!!! but there's no "side caps" on the station where you dock into....i'll work on it a bit more, i'm working on the depot btw.

Holy crapputti!

Of course you should continue! this is a very interesting topic, where to get that tng, is it mp only?

how do you do?

man i thought this was impossible... shows up not to be

Post Fri Jan 14, 2005 2:32 pm

ok, i guess i'll have to make a tut then.....

ok, i did have to edit the .cmp adding a few hard points and taking a few animation and "bit's" off the model i curren'tly not sure how to over come this.. about making it dockable i doubt this is posible even with the right entrys. atm i'm working on another mod my self witch will have me working for a few years... but i'll leave the choice to you, which station would you like flyable in the tut ?
