i think the flak cannon is good , maybe you could use a design like the cluster missles from sliver fires wepon pack

sorry for changing the subject do you know how to mod the hardpoints on a ship (say for adding guns ?) i`ve looked through the threads and i`ve only found out about G-Max and i`ve tryed that.

Use HardCMP.

There are some really basic things that u can add which would improve the game. One of the easiest is multiple loadouts for each difficulty value. That way you can have 3-4 versions of the piranha, one armed with just lasers, another particle another pulse missiles another solid slug (non-homing) missiles.
That way when the ships spawn the player will find the enemy ships have different abilities and will have to adapt to each. You could even change the shield types across the loadouts so bounty hunters aren`t always the same.
That way it wouldn`t be, "i`m gonna attack bounty hunters so i`ll loadup on neutron and tachyon weapons.."

Adding hidden regions and secret factions will give the player the interest to explore more.

Making the effort to have each new base as unique as possible using extra solar objects. Its pretty easy with FLE.

If its for story play then modify the ships used in the missions, if its for OpenSP then increase the levels of kusari, bretonia and rhineland.
