making a Hardpoint in Milkshape 3D:

1) with your model loaded into milkshape, click the 'Model' tab.
2) Click: Vertex Button
3) click 3 times in a top perspective view port to form a triangle with 3 vertices (points)
4) click 'Face' button
5) on one direction click each vertex to form a face (will be denoted by red lines from one point to another until there are 3 lines connecting the 3 points)
6) Duplicate teh selected items: CTRL+D on keyboard or: Edit->Dupilacte Selection
7) Click the 'Move' Button on Model Tab.
8) Move selection over until the original poly (in white now) is visible completely
9) CLick 'Select' button, make sure under selection options that 'Face' Button is clicked and no checkboxes have check marks in them.
10) select originally created face, hit 'delete' on keyboard
11) Click 'Move' Button. Move Face to desired position, ratoate when needed.
12) repeat steps 6 - 11 leaving out step 10.

any questions just ask.

@Hobbes78, too complicated...

@Supersnipa,
under Tools - Selection Editor.
Select the face where you want hardpoint, press SAVE button, then duplicate selection (CTRL+D), then rename the Duplicate0X into "Hp/..." bla bla bla.
Thats all.

How is making a simple triangle too complicated? I mean, in the TOP view, click three times in the shape of a triangle, with the button called VERTEX selected. THEN click FACE and play connect the dots, going ONE way. Voila! A triangle is born! Then, highlight it, go to EDIT->DUPLICATE SELECTION until you have the number of triangles you need for hardpoints. That's all i do. For the names of the hardpoints, just copy and paste right from Drizzt's tutorial. Your best bet is to make your hardpoints into a template, which you can then merge into your models, sizing them as you need them. Use the low horizontal plane, and line them up in a row, all labeled, ready to go, then save them. Next time you need them, the work is already done, and all you have to do is size them (if needed) then drag them into place. Also, make sure you know where the actual "face" is - i'm not totally sure if this matters, but i always make sure the actual face is pointing in the direction of where the gun will sit (pointing out). I'm just anal like that i suppose.

I do that manually. It is heavier but works always. Open the cmp in milkshape. Open the same cmp in utf editor and create the tree structure. From the milkshape views you can red the coordinates (mouse!). With a little exercise it is a WAY better than thinkering in milkshape alone with that.
