How do you make a new "faction code"?

How do you make a new "faction code"?

Does anyone know how, when creating a new faction, to give them a new coded reference like those that appear in the bases section of the universe.ini file? For instance, the reference for gd_z_grp or Zoners is W02bF52. If one were to create a faction, what would one put for the new faction reference? Are they absolutely necessary? How could you devote a base to your new faction without such a code?

W02bF52. It might be the case that the reference in the universe.ini "BGCS_base_run_ by = W02bF52 only purpose is to connect a voice (female or male) to talk to you when you approach a base. I don't know wether it is relevant but when you approach the base for the first time. At that time you have not visited the base yet, so additonal info on the base is not in your knowledge base. My assumption that it is voice related, is based on the fact that the only reference to W02bF52 like entries is found in the voices_base_female.ini and voices_base_male.ini in the Audio folder.
Hope this helps.
P.S. I envy you a little, promoted again. And after all this time I am still a 2ndLieutenant.

Which leads me to the obvious question about the base voices. I have a mike, I have the will, but I do not have the information I need to make all my bases unique by having the "greeting" for those bases related by the NPC at the base. If the code identifier above is necessary for that to happen, it is even more relevant that I find a way to put one in. As it is, I cannot locate the file that will change that or, for instance, the bartender voice at any station. I would like to put female bartenders at some bases as well, but the only one I tried so far gives only partial responses to Trent's queries. The same is true of the commodity broker. I thought it might be more decorous to have a female in that role, but she seemed to have strage arm behavior while figeting in that they were only partially visible sometimes. What's up with that? I saw a comment somewhere that others had tried it with similar results. Perhaps because the female figures are narrower in the shoulder area it could account for that, yet I have had no problems making a female shipdealer who appears as per specification when moving about.

Finding the file is not that difficult.
From mbases.ini:
[GF_NPC
nickname = li0101_fix_bartender
body = li_bartender_body
head = rh_bartender_head
lefthand = benchmark_male_hand_left
righthand = benchmark_male_hand_right
individual_name = 244609
affiliation = li_p_grp
voice = rvp101
The rvp101 file is somewhere in the voices folder. You can open it with the UTF-editor. The file has a lot of sentences in there. Use the export function and save the sentence of choice as a .wav file so you can play it.
Surely you can make a copy of the file, rename it, replace sentences with the UTF editors import function. I have not tried it, but it might be feasible.

Good God, you mean they are robotic voices that will read any script you put into the file? What a revelation! I had no idea! I thought they were a bunch of recordings made specifically for the various conditions that would be required. Ain't technology grand!

Oh... now I see what you mean. I used the UTF editor, opened that file, saw a bunch of other files in the tree, exported one and made it a .wav, clicked on it and heard the voice snippet. It seems like it would be possible to reverse the process with the UTF tool and add the appropriate "sentence" to the list. There would, of course, be a lot of sorting out to find the right one. Not trivial, but straightforward. Excuse my lack of sophistication in these matters. They are, of course, voice recordings, not robotic readings as I first thought. One might have to replace all of them for the sake of consistency in voice in order to get the right "feel". Perhaps I can press some of my friends, both male and female into service after writing some scripts for them. This is very interesting! It will have to wait a little time until I solve the more pressing matter of the docking ring, but I can see it on the horizon of my efforts to polish up my systems. Thanks for your reply.

Before you start recording everybody around you, it was only a suggestion that it might work this way. Suggest you try to replace one segment with your own, to check if a reference to renamed file will actually work and that the correct message at the correct moment is broadcasted. But you probably have been already that smart.

Well... I would conduct some experiments before assembling a troup of voice actors. But it seems like something I could share with my fellows over a good cigar, though to actually have them record with a cigar in their mouths may be counterproductive to clarity. One of my additions to commodites in the game is cigars. I cannot imagine a complete system without them, and in fact I have the Corsairs dropping them when they are... er, um, interrupted in their flights by my, ahh, responses to their rudeness.

Find old news on main page, look for QUICKSHOTS DOMAIN, he has done a tutorial on how to add voices to FL for bases and stuff before Xmas.
