Hyperdrive Data Compling...time to make a Hyperdrive...

The general place to discuss MOD''ing Freelancer!

Post Thu Sep 23, 2004 2:02 pm

Just so you know, hardpoints have no size at all. They are just that, simple points, with no dimensions.

You just create faces in gmax/Milkshape with hardpoint names, which are converted by the cmp exporter into hardpoints.

So any attempt to increase a hardpoint's size will be... futile.

I know this is a subject people do not want brought up, but when you accused Shadow43289 of a hoax, I beleive you drove away the only chance of a properly-working Hyperdrive for a long time.
I think I can safely say with 95% confidence that Shadow43289 was telling the truth.

By the way, TRM is likely to feature a sort of hyperdrive Look out for the Beta in a month or two to test it yourself...

hey Zack, i think its ok to bring it up, if he does have it, let him prove it by emailing a copy to an independent person (maybe one of the moderators here ) to confirm it or not. That way he wont have to release it.

You could set the entries for teh jumpgun/hyperdrive in the shortest_path things tp specific places, and have different ones for each, then make them go to different pats. as in, this "Jumpgun" will take you to the main Sigma, whereas the one will take you to New Tokyo, this one omicron alpha, this one new berlin, etc.

This might have already beebn usggested

I had a go doing the weapon jump idea. It was a missile which had the archetype of a jumphole as its explosion. I added a few entries in illegal paths etc.. But couldn`t get it to work, even tried a mine with the same explosion type. It would have been cool though, the missile would pop off slowly then form a jump hole which would have a very slow blast decay rate so it remains for about 30 secs.
I think the prob with the weapon is where does it get the destination from? Simply adding info to the weap equip entry dosen`t seem to guarrantee it will do it. I tried adding "ship to Li01" and "Li01 to ship" just to get something working.
If anyone has got even part of the jump weapon working (and they intend it to be free for anyone), can they post up what they have done so far?
I think Chip`s idea is clearly the better way of doing it, I just like the idea of being able to manufacture your own jump holes. Maybe the weapon could use an expensive ammo, so that it dosen`t ruin the flow of the game too much.
Imagine playing on MP and you`ve been fighting a rival player and you`ve got rid of their 63 shield gens and poof, they just disappear leaving you with nothing. At least this way the player could follow its target through the jump hole and engage again. Maybe limiting the weapon to have a max ammo limit of 1 or 2 would be enough.
The basic map of freelancer really isn`t very big anyway, if you could just appear anywhere it would take away some of the enjoyment of it.

Okay: I should let you all know what is happening.

Shadow43289 and I have been in contact for several weeks. We are now at the stage where he is willing to send his JumpDrive and/or JumpWeapon, to be used specifically in TRM, with absolute full credit to him. But there are things you should know.
1) The Jumpdrive can only be used in SP. I know why, but I cannot tell you for the security of Shadow43289's work. Let's just say that using it in MP would crash it.
2) The Jumpweapon can work in SP and MP. However (again saying very little for security) it is likely that once a hyperspace jump is formed, the jumphole.....probably stays there I don't know this for sure yet. If it is true, then the server would probably go down for 30-60 mins or so every now and then to get rid of them.
I intend to help Shadow43289 prove his Jumpdrive and Jumpweapon DO work, so he can be accepted back into the TLR community as a great modder

Shot i have also tryed to creat a h-drive system but i always get a CTD. Or the ship just sort of sits in the jump passage and never comes out. do you have any advise? i am glad to see that i am not the only one thinking of H-drives.

to Shadow43289 have you tryed using the code that selects the cordinate when you set a way point. that way you will set a way point and jump.

How about making specific HYperspace system. And you jump "missile" generated jh gets the coords of that only. So, you get into a place called "hypaerspace", with "jumpholes" (=ways out) into different places. Maybe somehow you could make some cool background and ambinece sound for the hyperspace... And you could make the jhs out of the hyperspace let you jump to certain coords within a system, but not a real gate/hole so you cannot enter the hyperspace without the "missile". Also, on MP others could follow you into hyperspace and then into the target system if they are fast enough... Just an idea...

Seth, Shadow43289 completed his hyperdrive some time ago...however it will not be available to the FL community, and it only works in SP.

im not sure how this would work but howabout make it a mission so when you select it it activates a trigger and warps you to a spacific spot?

TRM will feature a type of hyperdrive. The coding will be ready later today. Because Shadow43289 and I would like this to only be available for certain mods, I can''t say how it works. All I can say is you have to purchase the co-ordinates from bases
When the TRM Beta is out, people from other mods can see if they like it, and can ask us if they can use it. We will probably accept unless they're our rivals
SO look out for the TRM Beta in a month or two.

Do I get credit for starting the interest on the hyperdrive? :-/

Sounds like someone has re-discovered how the ADMIN ships teleport on the IONCROSS server... not that complicated really.
Our solution does require some server-side software, but it works.

Basically you purchase a commodity that indicates where you want to teleport to. When you launch, the server software detects that you have this item in your hold. It then kicks you from the server and edits your position to the location you wanted to go to. When you reconnect, voila! You've travelled half-way across the galaxy.

We generally use it to move people to bases, but in theory you could have it place you out in space. You would need to pre-specify the destination locations. The fun part of this is that it could teleport you to a hostile base.....

Really want to be mean? Put some of these commodities on NPC ships as loot and make all the ids_names the same so you cant tell where the go.

Warning: there is enormous potential for abuse of this system. In theory you could teleport back and forth between bases without actually flying anywhere. That's one reason we only use it for the ADMINS.

This isn't exactly a hyperdrive, but it works.

Victor and JoeBoomz, ahead of the game as usual. Sounds to me like this would use a similar system.
