How to translate Freelancer?

Hello!

I want to translate Freelancer, but I don't know how to start...

Which file contains the translatable text (eg. the neural net log)?

What kind of program needed to translate the game?

Thanks.

You'll need rehacker, which you can get here on TLR, the translateable stuff is in the .dll files in the exe directory of you install. Not sure that you can translate everything tho, some of it might be hardcoded.

(This site is best viewed with your eyes open)

There are many language versions available - best bet is to try and get the language your after - as the voices will still be wrong, and there are about 100000 text entries to edit at LEAST if you are going to do it..... (this figure hypothetically should be around 400000 entries, but unknown just how many there really are....)

I've tried to do something in ResHacker, but this is extremely hard for me...
I've found a program called FLEd-IDS. Now with this I started to translate some entries but this is an another hard work to find all of the entries (The Freelancer Miscellaneous DataBase helped a little). Anybody knows a list where I can find ALL of the IDS numbers?

Its best to use REshacker to find out the ids numbers, as you can open a dll file with that, then correspond the ids number to the FLED-ids to do your translation. ie - use one to find out which numbers are taken, then use FLED-ids to change them.

Thanks Chips! It's working!

I don't know very well special words in english and now I've found one (and I'm in trouble): "BW" that was in the text: "BW Fighter Engine"

Probably this is an organization name, like Corsair or Outcast?

*(and I've found another one: "Small WP Missile" What kind of Missile is this )

BH is bounty hunter
BD is blood dragon
There are loads of others, so let me know. Which language are you trying to translate it to though? It could be VERY worthwhile to:

A) Advertise for help (lots of dlls to do)
Trawl for other sites in other languages to then see if you can have their files (if its in the language you need)

I've examined, there are 12334 entries approx. in the game, so this is an enormous quantity! As you adviced I've searched over the net, and I've found a little page where the FL translation is in progress... (My vainness not allowed to find help to translate the game but now I must admit myself that was an imbecility )

BTW I'm translating Freelancer to Hungarian.
P.S. Good to see such a forum like this where the people are helpful (I'm not only think about you Chips, but I've read one or two topics and I saw the people are helpful to each other)!

So, keep it up!

hungarian! Blimey - well, I hope it goes well, you have a task and a bit . If you manage to accomplish it, would you be willing to submit it for others who may have the game to enjoy it as well?

I don't know how many people who speak hungarian may play FL, but if there are many, it would be nice for them to be able to enjoy your work too

Sure! This is my main goal!

Ehh.. I've found an useless FL Translation, this is laughable and miserable! 30% of the translations are ready and the translator(s)(!) wrote these (for example): The original english one: "Small Miner Turret"
The translation what I've found: "Small Mine (like shaft) Turret" -very confusing no? They translated Miner as Mine (note: These guys are non-professional translators, but this is a HUGE problem why they can't translate correctly. That seems to be these guys are very careless and they not get at it hard. Very sad.

Well I tried to translate too but sadly the audio files will be still in english (as mentioned above) and it is a huge amount of work so I gave up. I got the patience but not the time Anyway it IS a good idea specially fot those who cannot understand english.

Dunno what the missing one is.

Mk I, II, and III area weapons "versions" etc - so mark I is like number1, mk II is like number 2, Mk III is number three, mk IV is number 4 (the I, II, and IV are roman numerals for numbers)

Hi again!

Now, I'm translating the FL intro and the intro's textbook (or something) would be a great help. Anyone know where I can find it?
