"Sniper" Weapons

Anyone thought about making sniper weapons? Able to destroy anything in 2 shots? (I'd say one shot but if you do 1000% damage to someone's shields [that means if their shields have 100 hp, you hit them for 1,000 hp they will simply have 0 shields and their armor will take no damage and thus you need a 2nd shot.) You could be 4k away from someone with one gun that takes 100% energy to fire but travels at almost instant speeds [higher speed = imrpoved accuracy since they could easily dodge a bullet coming from 4k away and a very low refire rate, or simply make the refire rate low but they'd need 100% energy to fire again.

Anyone care to make a mod for this? ^.^

Why make a weapon like that? It is possible, provided you can target the individual, but what's the point? There'd be no challenge to the game if you could just kill someone as soon as they appeared on your screen.

Yes, we have two in Evolutions - they are bounty hunter sniping weapons - for assassinating top pirate agents (or that is what the cards say).

They typically do between 4-12000 damage per shot, require around 4000 energy to shoot them once, and they did require ammo to shoot as well.

Easy as anything to make. Just set the refire to one shot every, say, 4 seconds. Make the energy intake extremely high. The speed is set extremely fast. Find a nice effect, either a really long one, or a short one for it to look like a bullet going at the extreme. Add the high damage, and you are done.

Yeah, this is something we're looking at as an uber-expensive weapon in Dh4 - it wouldn't be too overpowering in my opinion if it had a REAL slow refire rate and super high energy requirements - what happens if you get mobbed?

You also want a REAL thin shot radius.

you know there is already some kind of "sniper" weapon in freelancer
it is called the "liberty cruiser forward gun" and it has a small shoot cone.
don't be fooled that it doesn't work in MP , it does , only its shoot cone is so small you have to be right in front of it to be fired

That's hardly a good sniper weapon, as the projectile is REALLY slow compared to most regular weapons, let alone the kind of speed you'd need for a sniper gun

Which makes it more of a siege weapon than a sniper weapon.


I made a sniper weapon myself. It fits on the torpedo-hardpoint. It does huge damage but has slow refire (1.00) and uses a lot of energy. It also has a long range; I found that 4000 was too far, as the long range meant that the low refire rate was irrelevant, it was always possible to get enough shots in. I put the max range as 1700 with a shot speed of 2000m/s, which works out nicely. If a squadron attacks you then you'll get the chance to destroy or cripple one of them before the rest are upon you. It's also useful in my game because I've given the NPCs recharging shields, so it's a good weapon to deal out massive hull-damage before the enemy's shields are back up. You need to get a good/lucky shot to hit with it at close range, so the weapon is not over-powered IMO.

I also made 3 versions, the lightest being suitable for mid-range ships but ineffective against NPCs in VHFs, the heaviest being a mighty bringer of Doom but only if I play in a VHF will I have enough energy for a shot (and a single shot depletes most of the energy!).

Incidentally, my weapon is a mega-laser so I used a Beam-Bolt with a HUGE length and big width. This effect looks great IMHO, you have a massive white-blue beam streaking off into the distance when it's fired.

i have weapons like this is my mod that is to come out soon. i have a few weps one only does shield and one only does hull thats a normal gun, but my torpedo is a sniper torp. furthest i have had anything go is 5k thats about it, but i have had my tracking up to alot more than that. when calgary was around i had sniper admin weapons. i changed my nomads to be this
