Okay, you know that the mod will show poeple how to edit mining if they didn't already know, whilst also making it clear that this works online as well. It doesn't take alot to then put 2 and 2 together. the thing that stops people is that we haven't really told anyone where these files are, and whilst some do know, it DOES stop all the mindless HUNDREDS of little modders who would LOVE to be able to mod these files and cause more trouble. Every day there are people being banned from servers because they have speed mods, and weapons mods on that were made, and are old (therefore before anyone considered the point of online problems).
I saw about 6 poeple get banned from a server last night due to speed mods. now the only reason why these poeple have speed mods is because they can download and use it without doing any work. Whilst this WON'T tell them exactly what to do, it will give them the 80% thrust in the right direction by showing them which files, and what the lines mean as well. After that, they just have to work out what to put in the space instead.
You asked for an opinion about releasing a mod that could very well have a detrimental effect. My answer was simple, it can be used "as is" to gain an advantage over others without being dectected at all.....OR it might help a few others (as you pointed out) learn how to do what they like. You realise the issue that it presents, and then want people to comment upon whether you should release it? Like i said, why? You are either of two types here.
1) The type that will do all they can to prevent the cheating on servers.
2) The type that doesn't really mind it too much - by this I mean that it doesn't really affect your online game THAT much anymore (thanks to Ioncross).
The answer to 1 would have been that you would never have posted it, you would keep the mod to yourself.
The answer for 2 is go ahead and release it, its NOT your fault if they change the files (not being sarcastic - being serious) - they KNOW they are not supposed to cheat online, so like i said - do whatever you like.
Hence my post, if you felt strongly about cheating online, then you wouldn't be asking about this, you would be keeping it to yourself. Its totally up to you, but last thing......
Asking the others? You might just get a totally biased reply as well - hence why it relies on YOUR decision. It doesn't matter WHAT others say, if YOU thought it was wrong - then you couldn't be talked out of it. If you thought it was okay, then you should ignore posts by poeple like me who would be posting "NO - its NOT fair on server admins that yet ANOTHER mod can be used to cause problems on their servers through no fault of their own". Hence, its up to you what happens, not us. All you will get is two lots of poeple trying to persuade you EITHER way.
