wing commander fighters progress

I said awhile back I was going to make some WC1 fighters for freelancer. I did the Hornet light fighter, and had over a thousand downloads. Guess that went over pretty well. Well I modeled that fighter from the in-game graphics. Recently, I've redone the fighter using Claw Marks as a guide, it looks 20 times better. I'd post some pics, but I haven't got a webservice that lets me do that, so you'll just have to wait until I get it textured and modded.

Also, I've done a Salthi Light for you Kilrathi Fans, And I'm planning on making a Dralthi Mk 1, which I haven't seen in a while. (kinda miss the flying pancake )

Anyway, I'm on vacation this week, so I'm gonna try to finish the Dralthi, and If I have time maybe I'll do the Scimitar Medium. (I don't care what anybody say the Scim rocks.) Than I'll go onto Krant and Rapier later in the month.

Btw, for those who didn't catch it, My Bud MaverickDan's working on completing the Tigers Claw. He's bogged down with college work, but he says maybe sometime next month he'll be done. From what I've seen so far it looks pretty good.

Anyway, I'll keep everyone informed.

Oh on a side note, I'm looking for anyone who would be interested in Designing the Vega Sector. I have all the maps if anyones interested.

I also wondered if there is any good character skin designers out there who could do confed uniforms for NPC's maybe even Miltia and Pirates too. I saw that Free Worlds uses custom NPC's, so I know it can be done.

Oh, one last thing, anyone out there do cockpits?

Might be able to do some of that before / after finals. Just have some labs to go through before then.

Also: If you've got WC models, y'might want to contact someone over at the WC:CIC; they'd probably appreciate having a few new models in their Projects section. [Which, incidentally, includes turret models and a few of the newer ship models, though I expect you've already been there.

Link: http://www.wcnews.com/wc3d/
[Turret models in Prefab section, ships in Meshes section.

I've also found http://wcmdf.solsector.net/meshes.htm to be a handy resource. Might save you some time checking there for models you don't yet have.

@spaceman

Thanks for the offer of support. Any help would be appreciated.

As far as WCCIC goes, I've been there, but I like to do my own models for the sake of consistantsy, both in scale and design. Plus I get a real kick out of doing it myself.

Anyway, my problem, as is the problem with so many other mods, Is I can't texture worth a flying crap, and my texturer is real busy, so he can't turn out as many as I hope. Putting that aside, I'd like the system's done first so if you or anyone else knows how to do that, it would be great. Other than that, I'd like to design some NPC's with some Confed uniforms, maybe some Pirates or Merc's, something along those lines. I can do music and voiceovers that's no big.

MaverickDan's doing CapShips, I'm mainly concentrating on fighters. Started on Dralthi today, plan to be done by Wed. Maybe I'll have a Scim done by Sat. I'm still waiting on My Salthi and Hornet to get textured. I've been done with them for nearly a month now. Did the Hornet in 2 Days. (A New personal best!) It looks really good untextured, probably look a lot better when it's done too.

Anyway, I'm not trying to do anything too major, cause I know those kinda mod's usually crash and burn. Just want to add to Siruis not really TC it. Maybe I'll take it a step further out of beta who knows? Small steps to start out with though.

Anyway anyone interesteg in helping can e-mail me at [email protected] or MSNIM me at [email protected]. Here's what we need:

Texturer
System Designer
Character Designer

A flying crap ... now that would be an interesting texture!

@spectre,

leave it to you to bring humor to any other wise dull post!

Mm? What kind of textures and how big? Wally (the texture-editing thing for Quake and descendants) is pretty useful in that regard; true, you're not using WADs, but you can still make and export textures with it. And it's free.

Suggestion: Google for textures for /other/ games - Half-Life, frex - and check if any can be modified to fit.

Post Tue Mar 30, 2004 1:11 pm

@spaceman,

well, it's not so much the textures, it's putting them on the ship half decent. I've been playing around with it since last April and still can get it right. It's not that difficult, (or so I hear) but I have no artistic talent in that regard. Kurgan's always done the texturing work for me, but he's really busy with RL. A/w, It has to be done in Milkshape through the Texture Coordinate thingy. You have milkshape? I'll send you the files if you want to play around with it.

Post Tue Mar 30, 2004 8:02 pm

Had Milkshape - I'd have to redownload it to work on anything, and it runs a mite slow on this machine. Still, I suppose I could be of some use in that department - I'm a fair hand with PSP, which'll help.

How big are the files? Hotmail dislikes large attachments, but I could probably arrange alternate means of access.

Post Wed Mar 31, 2004 11:24 am

@spaceman,

there not real big, less than 100 KB. And the paint job ain't too complicated. It's Basically just green and grey. Here's an example:

That's one of Eder's from Standoff, I don't expect it to look that good, but thats the general look of it. I'll send you the files in seperate e-mails, that should keep the limit problem down.

@JH, I forwarded your email of your fighters to the mod makers. Just to let you know I am not on the mod team, I just have a huge interest in the development and offer advice or input on their works.

Check out the Privateer: The Reckoning Mod forum and talk to Warzog, pSYCHO, Bob McDob or Tolwyn if you want to give them your other fighter models. Also, in the development thread header post Warzog has provided a list of ships he already has, so you don't unnecessarily duplicate some he already has.

@ss,

Hey spectre, Thanks for hooking me up on that one. Also, I'm kinda doing these ships for my own mod, so I'm gonna go ahead and do them all for scale and consistancy. (Plus I wanna say I did it. ) A/w, I'm just trying to extend a helping hand to the guys at reckoning, cause there's no use wasting models, right? A/w, warzog seems to have a problem viewing .ms3d (milkshape) files, so I'll just wait till I get a texture to convert it to .cmp and .mat and then I'll send it to them. Spaceman's working on a texture now, so that shouldn't take to long.

@spaceman,

If you can't find a mesh off-site, how about just taking some in-game textures and changing the colors and style? Rheindland would be good for confed, (just add some green.) Kusari's good for Kilrathi. I could send you some .TGA's if you think it's a good Idea. IM me later, I'll be on most the afternoon.

Post Fri Apr 02, 2004 7:27 am

@JH, pSYCHO can convert them, that is who I sent your models to.

Sir S

Post Fri Apr 02, 2004 5:27 pm

@SS,

I can convert them, but I don't have them textured, so It doens't make much sense to convert them yet.

@johnhawke

Uh, could you please just send the files via MSN? My Hotmail inbox is kinda full.
