Possible clue to the nomad texture(s)

I think I may have accidently found a piece of the nomad texture puzzle. I was applying my texture to my ship and I clicked on SphereMap just for fun and noticed that they it looks suspiciously like the nomad ships. I don't know if this actually has anthing to do with it, but it certainly looks promising!

Has anyone worked out how to get gradient maps to work on a ship? With the spheremap thing, and a gradient map I suspect we might just get this working

I thought panther said it was a combination of three textures or sommat - but not sure, so don't quote me or go nutts looking, but he said something about it.

if I would have to wager a gues as I have not delved into nomads as of yet I would agree with panther as the textures are most likly a combination of 3 or more with transparents on the out side semi transparents in and then a normal mat on the inside. though I am shure it was a pain in the but to model.

Yeah, I've torn the nomad textures apart. There are 3 types, one is the texture itself, the organic-looking blue-ish part. Then there are two other textures that are green and yellow or blue and red lines going diagonally across the texture that (I'm assuming) create the transparant effect, although I've never gotten it to work anywhere. There's also one more, but it doesn't appear to be used anywhere so I've basically left it alone.

Anyway, I just thought I'd point out the spheremap thing just in case someone was nearing a breakthrough and was stuck with that.

Has anyone gotten the nomad textures working on another ship? Or does anyone know how to get gradient maps working? Either one would be of great help, though I'm afraid I can't help as I have no idea where I'd start.

Glitch,

I have been playing around with illumination in texs and have gotten to the point where I can "switch" the lights on so to speak..however, I have not been able to get any graduation to it... its either on or off.. so I started to play with the transparency values as well.. the result was a totally transparent texture.. the ship was there because all the bits that were opaque were present.. you could fly it, fight in it, it would take damage, but not see it ... no variation.. Then I discovered that several textures seem to be mapped to the same panels... ?

Probably no help at all but it might to have some bearing on the 'alien' style of glowing texture.. not only are they double sided.... but also... illuminated..?

It would be a good thing to crack...

I seem to remember someone coming on sometime long ago (like a year or so) and talking about finding how to do it. Only problem is that no one else could get it to work! I think it had something to do with adding Bt to the DcDt but I could be wrong.

thanks, i was fiddling with glass textures right now and am using the nomad style of texturing. A Map and a color combo with an EcEt with Opacity. As to now it has no effect yet...
