Problem with the UTF editor

I just started using teh UTF editor to extract TGA files from the game to use for my ships, however, the TGA files alway end up corrupted and wont open on any paint programs, here is what i have been doing;

i open co_ships.mat and go to the node that says Texture Library
then i open co_fighter_textures.tga
and then i select MIPS and export it with a .tga file extention
now whenever i open the files in a program (photoshop) and Gmax, it says that it cannot read the tga file, or its corrupted, something like that...

CAn anyone help me?

Hmm - I usually export it to a different directory from the one with the file in.... however, i know nothing about ships textures, so it might be something to do with that instead.....lol

MIPS are for dds files
MIP0 are for tga files

so if you are extracting textures form MIPS, make sure the extension is a .dds not .tga.... Now for viewing this you can only use photoshop with a dds plugin from nvidia.

so, if you want a tga texture.... use milkshape with cmpimporter and import the ship with the corresponding mat file and check the check box of export tga files to a directory or something....

interesting...

wierd

in the file the node name is co_fighter_texture.tga, but it is an MIPS, so that would make it a dds file...
which means i cannot view it unless i am using photoshop with the dds plugin...

this sucks...
and its confusing...
were is my soda?...
the world may never know...

you can check it out in the utf editor...

Select that MIPS node then edit it in string you will see a group of letters that read DDS!

Here you can find DDS-show. Let's you view dds and convert to bmp and others.
