Can anyone please tell me how to make destructible parts

@BigBen Welcome to TLR. It would be in an ini file. Chips makes a great tuteral thread that can provide a lot of help as well as the Noobe threads in This forum. Both require a little reading. Hope this helps.

There is a tutorial by Redeye in the tutorials section for making ships/weapons with multiple components.

just wanted to give a few comments about destructible parts:

My (Excelcia) modding team & me decided to get rid of this feature of FL for balancing issues.
The reason is that area-weapons like missiles and torpedos damage all of these parts independantly -> the total damage that counts against the total hitpoints of a ship is multiplied by the number of its components.
This is the reason why missiles do a lot more damage as they "should" according to their infocards.

what we did is removing all [CollisionGroup entries, the [Simple entries were kept. (shiparch.ini)

with the overwork of missiles and torps it should be a lot more balanced as it was before - with an eye on custom made models as well (as destructible parts are hard to make for custom ships).

no more "lucky missile hits" - the skill of a pilot is asked a lot more as it was before and u actually can flee/retreat from combat without suffering a (un)lucky hit.
-> fights last longer in general, guns are as important as missiles, no more one-shot-kills

we found that balance is more important as losing a ship part or two - we adjusted gun hitpoints instead, so losing guns can still happen.

Its not that easy, but a part of it.
you need to model the desturctible parts in a way.

i dont know the details on that though as i never tried it. there was a thread about it somewhere...

good luck!

hmm i think the order of the groups are important
